So it seems to me that with the current 911 line-up, the only question the salesperson would need to ask a potential customer is "How fast do you want your 911 to be?"

991 Carrera S
991 GT3
991 Turbo S

What (in your opinion) diffentiates the above cars from each other?

- The purchase price
- The everyday usability
- The perceived kudos
- The performance
- The compromises

You'll get three different views on which is best, though.

Sadly, that would only impact you if you went for a manual Carrera S, you dont need a left leg for the GT3 and Turbo frown

But left leg braking has its advantages...

Transmission being the difference last time out, I suppose

I posed a similar query in the new GT3 owners thread, as I am in a 991 S PDK loaner today.

I carried out a little "experiment" today where a village at 40 opens onto an NSL, dead straight, no junctions, field entrances etc - the 991 hit 5mph more than my 7.1 GT3 at the same spot, I can only assume down to the pdk gear changes? It felt like riding a Saturn V rocket as the gears punched through - much more impressive than the Boxster S PDK I had previously tried.

I cannot honestly see how the new GT3 will be able to deliver more on the road, if for example, the performance jump is similar to that between my car and a 7.1 C2S?

It's hard to see where this relentless performance increase will all end, probably legislated off the road by Brussels?

You soon get used to it, My 991S feels a bit tame now and i need more. Hoping the GT3 does that. Mind you riding a BMW HP4 doesn't help much as not many cars that can live with 1000cc sport bikes in terms of acceleration!

It's hard to say when I've only been in one of them!

Those tags are becoming brands in themselves though I think. And I think porsche are pretty clear on what each means and how to market them. Perception is everything.

It's interesting though because there are 2 different halo models, depending on your point of view.

Fast, Faster, Fastest smile

Actually I faced this very dilemma this year.

I bought my first 911 - an SC in 1984, and I've had a new 911 every c.3 years since as my personal road car - inc 2x 3.2s, 2x 964s, 2x 993s, 2x 996s, 2x 997s (GT3 and Turbo S) plus a few collectables. So, this year, the choice was from the 991 range - C2S, GT3 or Turbo?

In the end I actually chose a high spec C4S, due next month. I see the 991 models as highly efficient executive sports cars, and I wanted mine with the comforts and conveniences to use and enjoy every day. I need the 2+2 config, N/A is nice, and AWD does feel very sure-footed, with slightly nicer steering than the C2. The performance differentials really aren't an issue for me at this level.

The important thing, whatever 991 choices anyone makes, is to have a proper '911' parked next to it in the garage, with a manual gearbox, direct mechanical steering, and no more driver aids than necessary. There's lots to choose from - pre'73, 'old school', air cooled - even the 996/997 GT3 qualifies. That way, when the mood suits, you can still engage with a '911' that rewards driver skill at sensible speeds on road or track.

For me, every time ive driven a blown 911 its always felt totally different to the na counterpart .... Like a totally different model. I expect the 991 to be no different.

If that's your test of a cars use then a GT3 is not for you i fear.

The 997.1 GT3 is only hamstrung by very long gear ratios and as I understand the PDK box in the 991 has much shorter ratios and can undoubtedly change gear (and get pack onto full power) much quicker. However, when a 991 C2S happened onto my private test track, the GT3 was night and day better under braking, could be turned in harder (I was on Cups) and it looked as if I could get on the power sooner. Straight line there was nothing in it ....

As the 991 GT3 has another 75bhp, more torque and allegedly even shorter gearing than the Carerra - I'm expecting it to be insane (as I felt my 997 GT3 was fast)! The quoted figures bear this out:
991 GT3 - 0-62 in 3.5 Seconds & 0-100 in 7.5 Seconds
991 C2S PDK - 0-62 in 4.1 Seconds (Sport+) & 0-100 in 8.7 Seconds (Sport+)

I'd get a very slow one. As that old NSX advert used to say: Rub it in, drive slowly. Incidentally I have a 3.4 Cab PDK, which is quick enough for me.

I was only referring to the acceleration aspect of the drive - sorry that wasn't clear?

Had my GT3 for 3 years now, so understand the other aspects of them, good and bad.

It will be fine for the rich and/or famous as they'll simply up the taxes payable. Some Euro countries already pay bonkers taxes to get in a fast new car.

Indeed, but that's what i mean. A GT3 being fast doesn't have that much to do with it's straight line pace.
