I've bought a private reg and I'm now looking to order some plates. As my reg is only 5 characters long, i'd like short plates. I know these are legal as its the type font, size of font and spacing between characters that needs kept with the definitions set out by the DVLA. but I'm a bit confused regarding the grouping of the characters, therefore is the below legal;
R1ABC ? (i'd prefer this)
or does it need to be like this

There are places who have fallen through the cracks when it comes to legality of number plates.
There is nothing illegal in making a Perspex Rectangular graphic, and using it in on anything other than a motor vehicle.
Personally I like to not give plod an excuse to stop me, so I'd go with a reputable retailer.

Surely you just remove the plinth completely and stick the plate straight on to the car with VHB tape (which is how the rear one will be fixed anyway).chip-boy said:

Standard OPC plate with the excess cut off but maintaining a 13mm border. The car never had the plinth fitted at PDI and the plate mounted with trim tape.
