Hi,

After a body-off restoration of the chassis and some other things the Chim is getting back together, though the engine is running very rough and cluncky (however at the exhaust it sounds fine but smells rich). It has been out and the valley gasket and fluids have been changed. The oil has been replaced with a 5w40 Synthetic from Elf and people are telling me the nasty sounds when running are the pushrods which might not be filled with oil. The remedy would we to replace the oil with 20w50 or to run it for a longer period in order for the oil to get warm and fill up all cavities. Though the last option does not sound like a very good idea with an engine note like a tractor.
The body-off took a few years, so that might have also got something to do with it.

Does anyone experienced a similar problem or have an idea how to cure the problem?

Regards,

Wouter

Mine smells rich all the time. Is the noise like a loud ticking? I had that with duff exhaust manifold gaskets. It could be something as simple as that, the mad a hell of a racket.

It is a loud ticking, though the exhaust manifolds seem to be on right. Also the nr 3 is not joining the action. It has a spark, compression and the injector works. The exhaust valve might not open up enough, so will be checking the camshaft today if it might need replacing because it is worn. Or might there be other problems why nr 3 is not firing?

Have you eliminated all the obvious areas first such as the firing order?

Unfortunatly yes. Firing order, changed the spark plug, cable and injector. Still the exhaust is not getting hot at nr 3 exhaust manifold. So the idea is it might have something to do with the cam or the lifters.

When you switch olie, get the Castrol 10w60 edge motorsport. BMW use these on there M series. Go to the BMW dealer it is cheaper them buying it at Halfords. Maybe you can solve your problem. I think it is your lifter that dosn't work.
