Ok given the ridiculous prices for the throttle pots anyone done a aftermarket mod to fit a better one ?. I have tried aftermarket ones but the quality Is rubbish. There some good Hall effect units on the market that don't suffer the same way pots do. Just wondering if anyone knows of a small engineering company that would make a aftermarket pot fit ?

I suspect it would need a new butterfly spindle with the start and end position slot modifying

Shouldn't need to resort to Hall style TPS just fit something Japanese they last forever never changed one in all my years at a Honda dealership and none since that's a 28 year span there rotating electrics and sensors/switches are second to none the earlier the better quality, this is an example but you want OE not pattern otherwise your back to square one ..............................

Its just a linear variable resistor with 110' sweep. The problem is as its 110', not the 90 that the butterfly goes through, it starts its sweep before you open the throttle, to give you the "throttle pot voltage". From memory its about 5k ohms, but any replacement needs to be near the same sweep and resistance to give the full throttle pot voltage range that the ECU would understand. You could fit something with the wrong values but you would need some extra components to get the scaling correct again. Ive seen the genuine Lucas units for around £60 from the 3.5 ltr engines just the plug needs changing, but the value is the same.

With aftermarket ecu would this not be even simpler, no matching up what the 14cux needs to see. Hoofa are you not on Emerald ? dead easy to re calibrate the throttle pot range so surely any pot would do like Simon suggests.

Spot on Carsy easy to calibrate in the software wink only needs to see a nice linear sweep cool

I've been going through the same issues and ended up buying a second hand one for the time being. I could not bring myself to part with £230+ just for what is in fact a variable resistor . I tried the brit part for £110. It was faulty and promptly returned.
If the second hand one goes belly up I will give the joining of the plug and wires a go.
