You can watch all the old channel 4 programs on 4OD (Brookside, Desmonds, Father TED etc...)

Why can you watch the old programs such as Only Fools and Horses, Vicar of Dibley etc... on BBC Iplayer?

Wasn't this what the recently-abandoned "digital initiative" was going to do, stick loads of old archive stuff on so it could be watched? I don't remember the ins and outs of why it was abandoned because the newspaper was more interested in how much had been spent on it.

Perhaps they get more income from selling all this stuff on DVD than C4 do for their old stuff, or perhaps there are contractual things that mean it's more cost-effective that way?

Every channel 4 program broadcast is available on 4OD?

It's all bks!

The BBC recently shut down a 3rd party free app which would search & schedule a download of any podcast or live programme on BBC radio.

Then, when questioned as to why they ordered the service to be shut down when they don't offer the same service themselves, a dickless mouthpiece stated that it was technically mountainous & anyway, they hoped to offer a full catalogue in 2014.

About a week later, I noticed that after programmes on R4, the continuity announcer invited us to download the programme just played (and others) from a paysite.

Erm, who'd of thought it?

Meanwhile, they continue to spunk the licence fee away of reality horse-st & staff payoffs.

It won't be long before they serve no useful purpose as taxpayer funded.

I think a lot of it is contractual. The actors retained a lot more rights back then so getting approval for repeats and DVD issues is more complicated.

The 7 day limit is stupid and I've noticed a couple of programs recently they didn't even put on Iplayer at all for "editorial reasons"... definetly not getting value from the licence fee

Fully agree, very frustrating the lack of programmes and length of time it stays on the site. Even channel 5 have a huge back catalogue of programmes and keep it on there a year I think

And then there's MOTD - can't ever be put on iPlayer due to contractual reasons with the Premier League banghead

When will the fat cats, and their lawyers, understand that we won't be paying for football highlights!? I don't watch MOTD religiously, but if there's a good game or a game with something different in it I might decide to watch later. But I can't (legally).

Just noticed - this season it looks like both MOTD and MOTD 2 are being carried for 7 days on the iPlayer.

It's all about money. The BBC is a commercial business. They have to make money.

Next you'll be telling me that because you have paid for a road tax disc you want all the potholes filled in. biggrin

Because the BBC Trust told them not to. Iplayer was originally going to be 31 days worth of catch-up, but other stakeholders objected to this.

I appeared on well known and to the best of my knowledge still running BBC show in 1979. I know the date of broadcast but can’t find anything on the BBC Archives other than a very brief description. No video sadly.
Is it possible to buy a personal copy from the BBC Archives or is there any way to get it?
