Went to get some fuel today and when i returned to the car it didn't want to turn over

i pressed and held the starter and it eventually sped up and started

this has happened a couple of times when the car is hot - but never when cold

i have had this problem on other cars and it was caused by heatsoak into the starter

has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it ?

Try cleaning the relay base connections & fitting a new relay located on the rear bulkhead.

From memory 2nd in from the left but not certain, good opportunity to clean all four though.

Clutch dust in engagement dog, this stops the solenoid engaging fully, remove starter motor, clean thoroughly and replace.

Battery might be low and needing a good charge, same thing happened to my car, as soon as jump leads were connected it fired into life as normal.

the starter did not want to turn then started spinning slowly then got going

i will try the relays first - don't fancy taking the starter off just yet
