996 audio upgrade

I'd love some advice. I want to upgrade the Radio/cd on my 2000 996. I'd like a single din system and don't want a fold out 7" touch screen as it will cover the aircon controls. So, having researched it it seems the Alpine CDE-136BT CD / DAB RECEIVER WITH ADVANCED BLUETOOTH looks the best bet. Does anyone have any experience of this or a better idea? Thanks

I would like to go DAB+ and Bluetooth at some point but have not yet looked into it in any detail.

Noticed tht LG also do some 'attractive-looking' head units although not sure if the lighting colour is adjustable or always blue.

I am assuming that we need to add a DAB aerial for best results...

996 is just like 986 so you can get a very simple looking double din screen, have all the functions you want and actually see the sat nav. I have had fitted a pioneer appradio which only cost £199 but there are lots of other options out there. No BOSE for me so it was a fairly straightforward swap.

..Did you have PCM1/PCM2 to start with so we know what slot you're planning to fill..?

You won't lose the aircon. If you have the climate panel it is just moved from the top of the central dash to the bottom. The trim surround you need when doing this is £4.26 inc VAT from an OPC.

Put this into google images and you will see some examples "pioneer appradio boxster 986".
