Restaurants in Manchester

Looking for food help, again(!)

Need a top notch restraurant in Manchester/North West a week on Saturday for 2 people - anything will do (within reason) apart from French food... all suggestions welcome and budget not an issue.

For gastropub type food, you could try the Oxnoble.

Unless you really want to eat out in Manchester I'd look in the surrounding environs - the City Centre's a bit lacklustre on decent eateries. My personal favourite recently though has been Jack Spratt on John Dalton St. Good food, great service, and stupidly reasonable prices. San Carlo Ciccicheta (sp massively wrong! and Australasia also get decent reviews but personally never been.

Burton Road in West Didsbury has a high number of decent restaurants for various cuisine types - Rhubarb has been good tous over the years although I think it blows hot and cold.

There's Auberge in Prestwich.

Either San Carlo (they're facing each other on King Street), Bem Brasil (also King Street), Rosso ( top end of King Street, Topkapi Palace (for a less formal and more relaxed evening, Deansgate)or Grill on New York Street.

Another vote for Australasia , also had a decent meal at Gaucho Grill but it is an acquired taste

Kwok Man in Chinatown does a very good Cantonese.

Either 'Grills', San Carlo Ciccetti is one of my favourite places anywhere, or either Chop House.

Regular San Carlo is always heaving, but not my sort of atmosphere. Rosso can be the same I hear.

I've not been yet but have heard good things about Simon Rogan's The French at The Midland. It doesn't look like an especially french menu I would add - it's always been called that
