Le Manoir....or?

The wife wants to celebrate our 40th birthdays and 10th wedding anniversary next year by leaving the kids (1&3yrs) with the grandparents and escaping for a night at Le Manoir.
Since we're in the vicinity I thought we could combine the trip with visits to a couple of places I've always fancied trying, namely Gerry Stonhill's Mason Arms and perhaps pop into the Hand in Flowers on our way home.
However when you add up the cost, this night away from the kids is going to cost the best part of £1500 which naturally gives me pause and makes me wonder what else we could do for the money.....
Any thoughts?
She's not interested in London, (before you ask she's been to the OXO tower with work colleagues, didn't enjoy it and it left a sour taste in her mouth) and I'm more of a steak & chips type of chap and as such I'm struggling to get past the cost of Le Manoir and I can't help thinking we could probably go all inclusive somewhere for a week with the kids and take a babysitter with us for that.....

Your holiday with the kids will be a very basic one for that money and certainly wont be anything special for the events in question. It will not feel like it's for the purpose.

Ive been to LeManoir and Hand & Flowers and neither meal for two exceeded £200. Are you just really really really fat or something?

Yes, but it's glandular.£1500 might seem a bit toppy but the Mason's will be about £100, Le Manoir is £900 for dinner, bed & breakfast, lunch on the way home, petrol, a new dress, maybe even one for the wife, it all adds up.
Maybe it's the dormant Yorkshireman in me but I can't help wondering if there's an equally special alternative we could consider.
By the way this whole 'OOPS! Something's not quite right' error message is getting a bit tiring!

Local hotel £150
Total £800.00
Tell her to wear an old dress!
Set lunch at Hand & Flowers £20pp so with tip and couple drinks maybe £100
Total £900

For £1500 you could go to no1 restaurant in the world. Cheap flights & accommodation to Denmark and eat at Noma (actually its no2 now)

I completely agree with your thought process, I am just arguing that a £1500 holiday with the kids is a very ordinary holiday isn't it?[]
Agree with the suggestion about flying to whichever the worlds top restaurant is though. That would be more special.
Le manoir is lovely but it is a £200 night out as far as I am concerned and if , for you, the act of visiting it will set you back £1500, then I don't think it is special enough.
It all comes down to, what you consider value for money.
To put in PH terms, you can pay £1,500 to hire a high end sports car for a day and a lot of people would consider that a waste of money but for some it's a dream come true.
Le Manoir is special and to some the cost would not be too much for the experience, you just need to decide if it's worth that amount of money to you.
