On the front of a preface lift chim? I have 235 35 18 on there at the mo and I'm getting scuffing on full lock on the front of the wheel well and the inner arch, I have et 42 but can swap for 33 if that will help?

I`ve found anything bigger than 225/35/18 and you get clearance issues, mine catches slightly due to the front arch curving back towards the wheel at the bottom of the sill when the front suspension rises up, but as always this will depend on the body differences side to side, flap disc and a angle grinder springs to mind

The 225/35/18 are around 8mm larger in diameter so around 4mm on each wall height ,can`t see why they should be a problem

215/35.18 are spot on within 1mm to OE tyres, are they to narrow ?

Flap wheel it is as I can't get the tyres I want in the sizes I want!
But I have a cunning plan!

225 obviously are 10mm narrower, 5mm each side, but as said above, they have a taller rolling diameter in that spec.

My track tyres don't catch. They are 215/45 17s. That gives a 625 mm diameter. They don't catch, even with 888s.
Your present 235s give 622 mm diameter

So it's not the diameter that is the issue, it's the tyre width.

However, 225/40 18s give a 637mm diameter, so will make the car a bit too nose up.

Try 215/40 18s. That gives a 629mm diameter in a narrower tyre.

Did you say what is on the rear? Should be about 25 mm bigger

They are spiders so minimum tyre is 225 max 255 although I'm going to put 265 on the rears

Have you checked your ride height lately? Rear outrigger triangle to ground should be 160-165 mm. Cannot remember the front setting, but my rear was at 140 and I had tyre catching issues. Correcting the ride height ended a year of wondering what the hell was wrong.

265/40 18 rears would go with 225/40 18 fronts

Are you using the rear spiders on the rear? I am, along with 245 tyres, I'd like to fit 265 but it catches now on one side under big compressions even with 500lb rear springs! I'm thinking of using the spider fronts on the rear, even with an et42 (spider fronts) the face of the wheel is still protruding 5.5mm greater than the standard estorils if my calculations are correct, the problem then is, if there's enough clearance from the angled outrigger support with 265 tyres

I would check if the outrigger is the same both sides ,put your hand around the back to check the gap .Mine is around 15mm different ..

Not worked with fibreglass so any pictures of modifying the arch would be appreciated.

Yes at the moment I have et 33 on the rear but will probably swap them over to et42 when I try the 265, 235 35 18 on the front with et 33 may be enough to clear alround

Just out of interest Richard, what are the standard offsets on a Chimaera? I am trying to buy a set of 17 inch wheels but don't know what offset I need

Standard wheels front 25 rear 33 ,if you go for wider wheels It`s worth changing the offsets slightly.

Pro race 1.2 can be picked up for a good price .

standard 7J and 7.5j but you will need 8j rear 7j front at a push , 7.5 is better.

What are you after ?

You can search for Peugeot Citroën they are 4x108 but you need a little plastic spigot ring ,no big deal .

Thanks Daz. There are loads of 4x108 around, including Peugeot/Citroen, its the offset that bothers me.

Which way around does it work? If I found some with 40 offset, can I adjust with 15mm and 7 mm spacers respectively, or is it impossible to adjust?

Front wheel clearance using a 225/35/18 there's no rubbing with the wheel straight, in the picture you can just see where its caught the bodywork with some steering lock but only when the body rises up

No catching on the front of the arch and not a hugh amount of clearance if you choose either a a wider or higher profile tyre

Any pictures? And are you using any wheel spacers? If your getting rubbing in the middle of the arch i.e. around the headlight access cover? Then thats gotta be your tyres being to wide for that 35 profile. But thats not a huge problem as you could cut away the inner arch where its catching and re fibre glass back creating the clearance need, I think you'll have to remove the headlight to do it though
