So my local pub is having it's 24th Birthday Party this weekend.
24 free barrels of beer, one every hour.
Starts midnight on Friday night (all of the 24th).
Although the bar will remain open to all and sundry they have also invited 24 regular patrons to participate in the contest phase of the day.
We will be required to drink one beer every hour for the 24 hours as a minimum.
When I signed up for this there wasn't any prize mentioned but now it appears there will be a bar tab of 24,000,000 Rupiah (about 140 quid) given to the last one (or few) standing so now instead of just supping beer at my normal rate - 12-16 hour sessions are fairly normal. There will be some competition for each of the contestants to get the others stfaced and ultimately fall asleep and miss one of the required beers.
Sadly there will also be a 4hr phase sponsored by Finlandia vodka (Beach bar out the front with sand and everything) with another 4hr session sponsored by Jagermeister.
I'm sure there will be Killer played on the pool table with each life lost being a shot of beer amongst other stupid games to be played out over the period.

I'm looking for some tips on me winning this event for Queen and Country.
My current plan is to head home lunchtime on Friday and pop a Diazapam, rouse myself about 11pm and then head down to the bar after a hearty Cottage Pie.
Other than that, just try and utilise the 20 years training (12 in the Royal Navy) I've accrued and knock some of the overly confident fools off their perch.

I'm guessing during the early hours we won't be able to polish off a barrel every hour (beer mugs are 330ml and the barrel holds 80 of them) so these spare barrels will be saved for the busier periods later in the evening.

Any other suggestions?
Also, if you happen to be in Jakarta I'm sure you'll know precisely which bar this is and hope to see you there through my blurred vision.

Well that sounds rather excellent, if not exactly healthy.

I think the killer will be the lack of things to do in the last 8 hrs. You will want to sit down, and get sleepy, but not have the energy to do stuff.

Probably popping out for walks / food / uppers hehe then back into the pub for your one drink per hour might work?

LOL true - i would say gatorade and benzedrine could be your ally...but dont they chop your hands off in Indonesia for that kind of stuff? Probably not worth the risk just to win a bar tab, especially as you'll likely not want to look at a pint for a while wink

There was a suggestion from my running buddies that I attend the 6am start for a 17km road race on Sunday and then head out to a 5 star hotel afterwards for a long brunch with free flow sparkling wine. Not sure if I'll be up to that though. Would be fun to try.

In addition, the rules are you can't leave the premises. The bar has arranged all sort of fun events for us over the course of the day. The drinking team is a good bunch of us and I'm sure it will generally stay in the spirit of the event. I for one will not be the one who pops into the main bar for one beer an hour, whoever does that is just being soft and doesn't deserve to win.

We get 3 meals over the course of the day provided and free flow mineral water. I'm thinking some iced espresso red bull bombs would go down a treat. Maybe a little shaky after a few of those.

Also, worst of all my running club (I'm with the Hash House Harriers) will be finishing their Saturday run at the bar and having their circle in front of the bar to which I've been invited to come and contribute to, this will be at about my 19th hour, not sure how successful this will be.

1 per hour for 24 will be a piece of cake if you're used to drinking.

On my stag do we hit the 20 barrier over roughly 6 hours and I still remember most of it, except the walk down through town to the club. drunk

Paced over a longer period of time it'll be easy I should think.

ETA - I'd ignore all of the above, somehow I missed your part about the competition being to get the others drunk and the stitching up games. Good luck!

I've never taken Diazapam before, the ones I have are left over from when SWMBO got her tits upgraded in Bangkok. Reading up on it I'm guessing I'll still be fairly drowsy when I'm in the starting blocks so I'll probably stay away.
There will be a good chance of somebody dying, there is no Ambulance service here and even if there were the traffic would curtail any efforts to make it to the Casualty department in time to stem the leaking bodily fluids.
All in all we're looking forward to it, major concerns lie with one rather large American chap, will see if I can team up with a fellow contender and see if we can write him off early doors via the pool table or some card games that he might not be up to speed on, perhaps Snap?

There will be photos of the event afterwards, maybe some updates from me during the day if I can stay clever enough to use my smart phone.

^^^^^

This will be happening on a regular basis, I understand a number of participants may be taking other more chemical additives to assist them to the finish line. This goes completely against my grain having completed 12 years in the mob so will be doing the old Tactical Puke after any particularly exuberant drinking games.

I'm guessing my bar bill for the night event will be in the region of 1-200 quid. However, the glory of winning will be worth every single Rupiah.

I would love to take part in this- sounds like great fun.

Don't eat big portions as this wil bloat you. Drink a few glasses of water. Eat some chocolate at varying intervals as the difference between sweet and savoury helps the taste buds.

Nothing really to add, other than I have fond memories of a brief spell working in Jakarta. It's a truly mental city...
Any clues as to the bar?

How about lining your stomach to stop absorbtion prior - a pint of milk used to stop me getting too sloshed on the special brew in my student days?

I'd say drink water to stay hydrated and to thin the alcohol too, also chocolate or other snacks to provide energy as digesting the alcohol will make you tired.

If you play tactically (one pint an hour, rather than a hung ho 'drink til you drop' approach), it should be a piece of piss. It's more about staying awake, which shouldn't be hard.
