Just got it back after having gear lever reattached to gearbox. Today however it decided it didn't wish to engage pretty much any gear unless the engine was off, but would sort of flit between third and fourth. It'll go into all of them no problem with the engine off. Any ideas?

clutch or slave/master cylinder. Check for clutch fluid loss or leaks.

I agree. Possibly clutch fingers but I'd start with the hydraulics.
