The importance of noise ...
Discussion
As i've got older the noise a car makes has become more and more important ... really important, like a complete deal breaker, over 50%. Anyone the same ?
Got hayward and scott to weld a 1.75 inch cross pipe on my GT3 back boxes for the grand sum of £110 and its totally transformed the experience of the car. So so much more fun, really encourages you to play with the throttle hold it high in the revs and keep the thing singing, there some popping on downchanges, heel&toe is so much more satisfying and it really is if that engine can finally tell the world just how great it is. Car feels a nats quicker too which always helps. Such a shame it wasnt like this for my road trip.
Now all i need is the quickshift from my mates turbocharged cayman. Not certain what it is but it has a lot more weight and feel than my manthey one, a 996 quick shift and the RS 3.8 shift all of which i tried out at a meet last night (although i accept some of those shifters might be better for trackdays for precision alone).

Cost me 4 times that for my 997 from them. Still a third of the price of the Sharkwerks system , which is itself amongst the cheaper alternatives.
Transforms the car really. Soo much more visceral an experience

I am still in two minds as to whether to get a bypass for mine and I guess I am looking for encouragement

I have a 997.1 GT3 and when I have the sport button pressed and the revs rise and hit around the 4k RPM range......

Yep, it's all about the sound. It's the main draw of the air cooled engines, that metallic shrill.
Even my 993 on standard exhausts sounds amazing. My fave bit is when you change up at the limit, when you lift the clutch to engage the next gear, it just sounds so race car to me!
The older 911 you go the better it gets, but the 964 is a highlight!

To be fair i took my old boxes off (required lots of angle grinding) and used my courier account to send them down to Southend. I think they charge you double that again to remove and refit. Great bunch of guys though, they welded a stud back on that had sheared off FOC, never mentioned it or anything, they just spotted it and fixed it and gave me a new nut as well.Cost me 4 times that for my 997 from them. two things for a performance car. Noise and seats. Get a nice noise and a proper "bucket" seat and you are sorted.
Gearchange is almost 40% for me
I think out of all the interfaces you touch - wheel, pedals, seat - its the most pleasurable.
Still miss that Caterham 6 speeder ... it was like your very hand was inside the box swapping big bits of metal around.
I guess its why i fell in love with the F430 .... the noise and that beautiful chrome gated clickety shift.

I fitted the sharkwerks race pipe to my GT3 and it sounded (as described by the fitter) like a NASCAR! However, over time it just became too much of a drone so I swapped it for HS rear box delete and the sound is spot on now!
