It'd be interesting to hear all the possible mods our S's could have fitted, with approximate prices, exactly what is being fitted, and how many BHP said mod might achieve.

Trumpets, carbon fibre plenum, power boost valve, supercharger, sports pipes, ECU remap - from the small to the large.

let's start with Large:

-Cosworth 2.9 24v

costs about 750-1000 euro's incl. computer and wiring etc. (what's that, about 520-690 quid??). saw a '93 cosworth 2.9 for 600 euro's yesterday... Think it does about 225 bhp.

Well, it's christmas soon...

You can go as far as you want. Depends on to what degree.

You could in theory:

Lighten balance all rods, crank,flywheel
Wedge, X drill crank
Bore out to 3.2 or there abouts.
Fit a higher lift cam
AP conrod bolts
Fit roller bearing increased ratio rockers
Port and flow heads
Increase valve sizes in the head
Replace ignition with a more modern crank sensor/trigger and coil pack
Competely replace Ford IV ECU
Blue print all parts.
Re gear gearbox

Then you could start looking at forced induction, then NOS

You can just go on and on all depends on your budget. Obviously as the BHP increases you should up rate other parts, suspension, braking, drive train.

Rob,

Why V6, you have a V8?

Anyway, the best (IMHO) mod and the cheapest way to achieve more power would be fit an N20 injection system, 500% power increases are quoted as having been achieved on some vehicles. All road legal too.

However, your car may not be the only thing to rocket, it is likely that your insurance premiums will too.

Are there any V6 S's out there with a system installed?

Edited to say, sorry just saw your other thread re. V8S mods too.

Thats a great list there Chris I posted as I'm interested to see prices for each item on the list along with increased bhp figures. All approximate guestimates of course.

I didnt fail to notice that power boost valve and super charger were not on the list But they are actual accessorires that one can fit for next to no moneey (to achieve next to no power )

If you do know the answers, it would be cool to see a list of all the possible power related mods, with approximate prices and bhp figures

My big problem is "How useable is it off the drag strip?"

Would be interesting to know what is considered a relatively cheap/easy but also effective modification? (is there such a thing?)

cheers

I think the best bang for buck really is th Austec Unichip and RR tuning.

best bang per buck is cc .. if your engine is in any way tired go for a large capacity bottom end and remap / replace ecu ..

This is an old chestnut. If you don't have really big bucks to throw around it does not pay to modify your S since firstly your insurance company will want their whack and secondly if you are thinking of selling you are very unlikely to get your money back. Also if you go for the full monty then you can at least double your outlay in uprating transmission brakes suspension etc--at the end of the day you have an almost undriveable car for everyday use which you put on a trailer and take to track events now and then. All that money would IMHO be better used going for a big grunt car like the Cerbie rather than trying to make a silk purse etc.

I think the best person to comment on this would be 'gbgaffer' AFIAK he has a blue printed full hill climb/sprinting spec Cossie 24v lump with downdraft carbs in his S4C, a S4Cossie .
Shall we just say he will out drag anything this side of a seriously tweeked 500 . Power , don't know, adequate I think describes it .
He doesn't post very often at present and now resides on the IoW, perhaps they haven't got computers over there yet.

Hi All,

Harry's right, we don't have the new fangled internet thingy on the IOW (Broadband that is... said to be coming next year or was it century?)

Anyway, if you want a quick S by all means bung in the Cosworth V6, but you need to be mad to do it

My justification is that I like the S and that is all there is to it.

Anyway keeping an old plastic sports car going is a lot cheaper than maintaining an old wooden sailing boat!

I've pondered buying a 'modern' TVR, and as I write this I am surrounded* by 350's, Tuscans, Cerberas, and for what its worth Lotii and Nobles, and they don't really do it for me - I'll stick with the S thanks

Cheers

Graham

* I am sitting in Peninsula's showroom waiting for the S to pass her MOT and be fitted with some (further)uprated front brakes.

Thought the ref to the lack of modern things like computer things on the IoW might bring you out of the woodwork Graham
Good to see/hear you're still about. Agree about the S I wouldn't swap it for any other RV8 Tiv, prefer the looks and handling of the S.
However the Cerb is different beast IMHO and at present is the only thing that could temp me to swap, in an ideal world I'd have the V8S and a Cerb but life aint fair .

I'm with you about the Cerbera Harry, shame its not a rag top - its a wind thing with me, and no I haven't been hitting the curry shops.

Note to self - I really must try and log on to PH more often.

Mind you I'm thinking of starting an IOW region of the TVRCC - there are at least 3 on the Island

Cheers

I was really impressed by the Cossie at Silverstone, but I think it may be a bit much for me. So I'll stick to tuning up the S3 a little then moving on to a Griff. Mind you I've never had a drive in a Griff, so may hate it. I took a fellow PH er out last night, and have convinced him too buy an S. I remarked about how stable it felt when I threw it into a roundabout and out of it again hard on the throttle. I have to say once it is set up I don't think I could step to somthing that doesn't handle better.
