Now bear with me l am new on here and are sure to ask a question thats been asked before,
l am looking for 911 - 996 and are looking for advice on either a C2 or C4,
would prefer the S model as l like the look of the wide body,
Any plus or pitfalls on either of them
Thanks
If your budget goes to a C4S (only widebody option) then if you could stretch it a bit if I were you I would go for a Turbo.l am looking for 911 - 996 and are looking for advice on either a C2 or C4,

The pitfalls are the free lottery engine self destruct ticket you get with anything other than the Turbo or GT3/2 series engines. Maybe you could live with that but I could not, which is why, having initially desired a C4S albeit in 997 guise, I went for the 996 Turbo.
If you can't then I would go the other way and buy a nice but inexpensive boggo 996 C2 and take my chances, I believe the 3.4 may be a better (read Hartech) at least regarding certain issues.
Actually I probably would not, and either forget a 911 altogether or even Porsche.
I was wondering this earlier in the year. Ended up with a pre-facelift 996 c2 and couldn't be happier. I'm of the opinion that the simplest, most basic, 996 is the way to go. Added to that, I've never once thought to myself "I wish this was 4wd", or ever got the thing out of shape.
Doubtless a future classic.

I've had a 996 C4S in the past and just bought a 997 C4 this time.
I tend to drive them all year round and since we get a bit of snow up here sometimes and in Scotland, where I often travel on business, I just thought that the 4 would suit better.
This could all be b
ks of course but it seemed a good idea at the time.
I do like the wider body too.

C4, smaller boot and the fuel gauge is comical if you do a splash and dash
If you have the financial means to ignore the cost of an engine rebuild you can afford £60 to fill the tank.
£10 for fuel at a time is so Citroen Saxo don'tcha think??

Very interesting reply, l started out with your choice in mind but kept thinking another couple of thousand pounds would get me this, then another few bob would get me that,
What year and milEage did you go for,
Thanks VW

I was looking for quite a while, also thinking that I could just spend some more on this or that. In the end I'd had enough and decided to go for the most basic car I could. I was also keen on a C4S - they do look better when parked next to a C2 - but the 2 has more than enough presence when it's parked out on the street or in the office car park. Being simpler than a 4WD system, I'm ho[ping that 2 will have slightly less potential for big bills too. What year and milEage did you go for,

I got a T reg, 75k miles.
The only thing I'm not too happy with is the exhaust note. I was thinking that I should've got a car with PSE, but looking at the corrosion on the exhaust I've changed my mind and think I'll go for a tasteful stainless system instead (was thinking Dansk for something almost OEM).
