You don't need to look out for anything!! All Cerbs are trouble free....reliable like a Toyota Yaris and just as cheap to fix to boot!!
I've heard the Speed 6 is the one to go for...shouldn't have any trouble there with that old lump!!

ps. the 'search' button is just up there on your right.

cheers buddy!

Its just loads of people say bad things about the reliabilty of them!
Especially the speed 6`s!!
Is it that the 4.5l are more of a weekend car and the 4.2l is more of a day to day car??
(what are the different models?)

Dunno what to do now??????

If you can live with and afford paying out big bucks when things go wrong - then buy one.

If you want one cos its used price is pretty cheap compared to new, and your finances can support anything from 3 to 7k(not common, but can happen) a year... then buy one.

Reliability? do a search on forums for the word 'reliability' via the search button above, and you'll see the problems people have and the shit they go through to get their car fixed - many have been weeks without their cars - but some can swear by them and they've never had a serious problem...

If you're joining the fold, and you havent had a high performance car before, i'd recommend you pick up a 12k griffith and have sum fun, if you like it and want more - then sell her off (quite easily) and pick up a cerbera... IMO...

PLUS remember TVR dont make cerberas anymore, so parts will become rarer and more pricer... this car is quickly becoming a classic - and those with a classic car budget will enjoy her.... others will be afraid to take her out for a drive cos she'll rip a hole through your pocket everytime something stupid plays up...

Mind you, as long as you keep her well serviced (which as far as servicing costs are concerned is quite pricy!)... she will run fine - until pop or bang or dump - something goes and its a long delay before things get fixed...

ahhh man, we must be writing these kind of posts like every week, is it me, or are cerberas getting a lot more popular with the casual bimma owner - maybe one day they'll all end up in the hands of youths looking for a 8k car that hits 200mph...
I reckon, sooner or later, there will be empty shells in most garages because the engine went puff and theres no support for it anymore...
nice to know....
Thank god rover didnt end up like that....

I`ve had high performance cars in the past, these inclued skyline gtr, elise, exige, and currently have a 300bhp Evo 6 and an escort cosworth!
So this wouldnt be my first performance car, and im not just looking for a 'cheap' cerberea that can nearly make 200mph!! Im looking for a future classic, that i can enjoy driving, going to meets and maintaining to the best i can!

I appreciate all your help guys, ill definitely bear it all in mind whilst im looking for my next baby!

Well qualified then in terms of power and RWD experience.

If you don't mind me asking what sort of amount are you looking to spend, as with TVRs most of the time, the newer the better (on cars that have been maintained equally).

I would stick to a V8 personally and have heard differing reports on the smoothness of the engines for everyday use. I've test driven all three engines and found the SP6 would be easiest in normal use (it was closer to drive to my wife's Mondeo than to my TVR at the time!) and the V8s pretty similar depending on the quality of a particular car.

Between the 4.2 and 4.5 V8 there's little in it, but the 4.5s command a premium and that extra 0.3 litres is only useful over the ton I'm told - I've driven a very impressive 4.2 that certainly felt more powerful than a 4.5 so I'd say if you find a 4.2 that has the right colour combinations and options, go for it

Oh no, this could be the start of BMW/Merc model labelling.

180 - This one has a 1.8 litre engine sir.
200 - This also has a 1.8 but with a turbo.

Why they can't have a 180T is beyond me

Ignore SXS, he has a downer on Cerbs despite the fact he's allegedly paying big bucks to take the body of one and stick it onto a top fuel dragster.

I'm a GP and use a 4.5 Cerb as a daily driver. I wouldn't use it if it wasn't reliable. Try to turn up at one of the weekly regional meets. Questions like yours and 'can I buy anyone a pint' usually is enough to get a drive in all three types.

Allegedly? You mean 'HE IS'... keep up with the project via the project website link on my profile...

And nooooooo not a top fuel dragster - a road legal F16 on wheels more like!!!

and I'm not a downer on cerbs - I love them - but I'm pessimistic and negative about everything - theres always two sides to a story - I like to take the negative side - that way you wont get hurt - cos only the positive could happen because you've accepted the negative... hmmmm does that make sense? or am I babbling...

I'm with SXS

I love my 4.5 - it's awesome, when it's sorted it's pretty reliable, but this has two caveats - sometimes the getting it sorted bit is expensive and reliable doesn't take into account little things, such as the fact that I'm gonna drive home with no windscreen wipers tonight (which is actually not as bad as you'd think - even in heavy rain... solution is to go faster !)

Oh yeah, I use it everyday ....

SXS - Cossie`s me wifes car, but runs about 300bhp, petrol blue plus a few other mods!

Tripps - I am looking to spend around 20k, but most i like have been around 25k so might have to spend a bit more!

Julian64 - As you use yours everyday do you find you have problems with it more than a normal car??

if you're serious about one of blackpool's finest, and the best ever car to come out of the wheeler days, look no further than the cerbera, it's awesome.

My advice is don't go dealer route .. go speciallist sales route .. there's a few people out there who will source a car, or already have a suitable car for you .. my fave is james agger (agger autosport) - i do a lot of his cars here in the workshop for a simple reason : you don't get any shit from him!

he's well worth a call if only to ask him how his tan is coming along

Speedboy, i did exactly the same, albeit with a few month gap inbetween.
Went from a VII RS Sprint(330bhp / 320lb/ft) to a 4.5

competely different animals (beasts!) but you get that supercar feeling and that awesome noise to accompany the cerbera.
Was quite disapointed at first though with performance of the TVR compared...until you stretch to the end of the rev range then it flies!
70-100 is the difference but the Evo was no slouch!

The cerby would be nowhere near in this weather though (in my, admittedly, uncapable hands!)
And in the dry you would have to be a bit nifty!

Do i regret it....good question...at the moment - No..even in this weather i still use it as an everyday driver - i dont mind pootling about in it...thats the difference for me!!! it just looks so damn good!!!
