As much as I love my S, if I had £11,000 as a budget to spend on my first TVR or another weekend toy to satisfy my mid life crisis, I am not sure I would have gone for an S, even a V8.
I would have perhaps gone for a Chim, or even a cheap Griff or Cerb for that sort of money. I know now, several large bills would have not been far behind with the latter two cars at that price. I might have also gone for something a bit more mainstream, and with that sort of budget there are a lot of choices available as a weekend play thing.
That does look like a nice V8S, but I think the market for a car like that, at that price is rather limited. I do think it is a fair price for the car, from what information is there, but who are the potential buyers? It is, in my opinion, a small group of people who are perhaps 'upgrading' from a V6 based S, or have done their homework and know they want a V8S. Many people seem to fall in to the S market, wanting a TVR, but on a limited budget end up with an S, and then love every minute of it. If you have a larger budget, and want a TVR, many would overlook the S series.
The S owners are a cracking bunch, but I do get the impression from comments made by other people that they feel like the S's are almost an annexed group of TVR, amongst the classics, separated from things like Chims, Tuscans, Griffs and the newer TVR models. I personally have never felt this from any other TVR owner so far in my few months of ownership regardless of what they drive. The un-educated Joe-Public who talk to me just see TVR and think it is cool, and loud, and more expensive than it is. Is there more behind this, that leads to the TVR collective talking the price of the S down without realising.
My S3 cost me less than £6k. It is not perfect and is likely to need the outriggers doing at some point, but it is ok, and loads of fun. It is my first TVR, and I am now hooked on them. If I had some cash to upgrade, I do fancy a Griff. A question, if you already have a V6 S, and say £10k to spend on an upgrade to add to the value of you car when sold, what would you buy?
Given the problem this seller seems to have had selling his nice V8S, how do you justify spending £4k plus some on a chassis rebuild unless you plan on keeping the car for a long time. It is likely to result in a loss when sold from what I can see. Does this then lead to the demise of the S with the majority being left to rot themselves away, unless we can somehow raise the value of the cars, so that a rebuild becomes economically viable (knowing you will at least break even should you need or want to sell). I know that some are more than happy to spend far more than their car is worth on keeping it nice, and I do not have a problem with that at all. I guess they have found the car then want to keep, and that then makes perfect sense.
I will leave it there, and wait to be shot down. Just my thoughts, and not intended to offend anyone.

It will not die long term IMO, just out of fashion
As a TVR fan, I really do not understand the low price of the S series compared to the rest of the TVRs. I picked up my S last yer, as my first TVR. I could have picked up a Chim, Griff or Cerb, but for the money the S is amazing. Everyone I meet not in the world of TVR thinks they are fantastic and cannot believe they are so cheap. This leads me to assume that it is the TVR enthusiasts keeping this super gem cheap as it is. I honestly think it is a nicer car than the early Griff, but at 1/4 of the cost! Don't panic, at some point this will be seen as a true classic.
I have to agree with some of the comments above, anyone looking for "a TVR" in this price range will be looking at Chims and Griffs.
Lovely car however, and any S enthusiast (myself included as I love ALL Rover powered TVRs) would dearly like to own it.
But (and I say this will all due respect) most casual observers will assume it's a Ford V6 car, and not the V8s?
The same happens in wedge circles, some lovely examples of the larger engined wedges for sale at the moment, but only a "wedge only" enthusiast would entertain it, not the general TVR buyer seeking to purchase
And sadly it's the same with this V8S, the buyer catchment is very limited

I bought mine as an accident really. Was on the lookout for a S3 but then my V8s came on the market over budget. Thought I'd have to look at it just to rule it out and fell in love. Offer was accepted that day subject to inpection and it came home with me a couple of weeks later and that was that! Didn't really go out looking for one, was more budget and slightly creeping desires.
