I showed someone the handle on its own before I fitted the wire part and they asked me what 710 was.
It took a while to work out what they meant before it clicked. Thought I would share the experience with y'all.
Yes, I am bored............ with a machine shop of CNC equipment and lots of material offcuts.
Ahhhh, the '710 joke' is nearly as old as the internet itself:

If anyone's interested. Here is how I made the dipstick.
The original dipstick blade is held into the handle with a 3mm roll pin. I made the new handle slightly wider and shaped on the underside to feel better around the fingers.

Using a small drift, press out the roll pin and you can then refit the original blade to the new handle with the original roll pin, or an M3 grub screw (I tapped the handle hole M3), together with the original (or new) "O" ring.

Using some stud and bearing Loctite, that will stay put and not only looks nicer, IMO, but is stronger and feels better.

So basically put your dipstick in a lathe and twist it and it'll feel better?!
I'm not so sure :-s
Not quite, put a plastic dipstick in your lathe and it will not feel better, it would feel shattered.I'm not so sure :-s
Put a 4" diameter billet of aluminium alloy bar in a lathe, rough out the shape and precision cut all the diameters, then transfer it into the mill, face off the flat surfaces required, then use the mill to bore the holes. Run an M3 tap down the small attachment holes and 5 hours later, you have a dipstick handle. Anodise to choice of colour if required.
That then feels better.
For fun that's ok, but that's a lot of work for such a small item and makes it pretty uneconomic to try and do at a sensible price to sell.
If I ran off 5 at once, you are still throwing away 80% of the material so they would still come out at about £70.00 and noone would pay that for a dipstick handle!
Cheers,

Hmmm,
Ok, I will make 5, and offer them anodised to your choice of BASE colour at no additional cost. Silver, black, red, blue, gold, purple, gunmetal and green. Could even bright polish if required?
I can leave the shaft undrilled too if anyone wanted to pop into Timpsons and get it engraved.
If anyone wants the dipstick complete, I can buy you a new one (£17.05 + VAT) and transfer the bits over for you so its all ready to go, no fiddling required.
Please PM me with your requirements and as soon as I have 3 confirmed orders, I will get back in the workshop and make 5 cos 3 will at least buy the material.
Thanks,
8Tech.
