Good ways to advertise locally.

I'm plunging into self employment, driven by a need to earn money after being made redundant.
My focus will be on tinkering with PCs in households. I've thought of leafleting, local ads in shops, local papers.
Any clever ideas I've not thought of?

Assuming that your area is no different to others and so will have declining numbers of PCs as people switch to laptops, tablets and smartphones; unless you do some research you will be guessing where to advertise all day long. So guessing that shop windows and village/community halls ffor older customers; schools and colleges for younger; and local advertising booklets for the remainder. I think youre heading in to a challenging area; but Good luck!

I have to agree with rog007, I've tried the very same approach few years back in attempt to generate some additional cash in hand. Needless to say the "customer" cluster is very narrow. Majority was word of mouth and in average above 55 years of age. Back then I was in my early 40's.
Today IT/PC world is totally different than even 5 years ago. Everything is disposable, no one really need an IT support or repair any more. Even the older generation uses Pads, laptops, smart phones etc. The only real PC are now in offices and limited to schools, libraries and alike and they usually have their own people.
You could get new 7/8" pad at Tesco or ASDA for under 80 quid, who will bother to pay a repair/support service a 20/30 quid hourly rate?
Give it a go but don't invest anything before you know your demographics, do you research first and jump into it once when you have all the facts.

I appreciate the input chaps, it's much as I thought, but I've got to try it or die wondering. I do have the advantage of being in a more provincial area where, according to a chap who does the same, he's turning work down.
