If I chop in my commuter, what then?
Discussion
I've been riding my Boardman comp now for six months for commuting to work & as it replaced a Specialised Rockhopper, one of the most welcome aspects has been the increase in speed.
If I were to swap to a road bike in roughly the same budget - 5-700 quid, what could I expect in terms of performance? Incremental or a step change in performance?
It's a bit of a wide question I suppose but you know, n+1 etc.

How many bikes do Boardman call a Comp? I just looked.
Presuming you have a hybrid then I find I gain about 10% on average speed when I take the road bike instead of hybrid. Plus I get more people waving or nodding. I find it a bit easier to get down a bit into a headwind, but I guess we are all different. Best to have a few of each :-)
