Just joined...E type advice needed!

Hello all, couple of weeks ago I bought an E type, a bit on the spur of the moment tbh, had been due to look at a TR5 and then this turned up! When I say E type what I actually mean is a very rusty, accident damaged shell and 5 trailer loads of parts that might or might not fit! Its a Series 1, 4.2, 2+2 auto, or was once anyway.
I'm happy enough doing the body work but can't face doing all the work and it still being an auto so looking for advice, parts etc....I've heard XJ6 manual box can be made to fit...anyone know more about that? I have seen complete kits to buy but thats not going to be in budget by a long way with everything else....hoping to sort something fairly soon as I'd like to do a trial fit while body is stripped...thinking about gear lever position....gearbox mount, in case changes need to be made.
Happy to buy parts, or maybe a swap...all of a sudden I've got a lot of Jaguar bits!!

That sounds like a pretty big undertaking. Would be great to have a build diary of that.

I would certainly lack the balls to take that on as a project but hats off to those who have the guts and ability to do so.

Converting any classic Jaguar from auto to manual is a reasonably simple job.Rob Beere engineering is one of the best places to go for information and the parts needed for the job.I think the E type had some limitations on the length of box that would fit which is why it was never made with overdrive as an option.As in most cases I think at least the 5 speed Getrag from a 3.6 XJS fits ok in the E type.

The other option for a 5speed box is Guy Broad does a 5 speed box specially for the XK engine, its a custom casing to fit easily to the back of the XK on a standard bell housing. But the innards are from a Ford MT75 box.
