Shedding it with an Estate
Discussion
Well,
Come the end of June, I secured myself a new job. Out in the sticks, crappy country lanes, with possible damage down some of them. So I did man maths, and took upon the path of shedding it properly.

1999 Citroen Xsara 1.9 X D Estate

All was well, it has T&T until the end of Feb 2014, and only 84k on the clock, one owner, full Citroen History, cambelt done 2k ago, so happy days. Then, my boss reversed his truck into me

But, he paid me £300, which was nice, and the car still runs. Ive hit it with my breaker bar from inside, reattached the bumper, and it doesnt affect the drive, or noise inside the car at all. Rather happy, free car!!
So shedding is happening in everyway, apart from it being a free car, maybe it now needs some attention. So, 2 bulbs, and a wash later, here is how it sits today. 3.5k more miles then when I purchased it, averaging 53mpg no matter how I drive (its quite fun on the lanes actually), and hopefully it will fly through everything next year and continue to do so! Free motoring is fun!

If it had been a nice car, I wouldnt have been too pleased. But it isnt, so ideal! Well im hoping from putting it on the ramp earlier, nothing is wrong with it. Its perfect underneath. This is my savings plan. Will allow me to run a really nice weekend toy, which ill be glad about.
Anything will seem quick compared to this thing.

I decided to get an estae myself as the mrs goes to work in my new seat leon tdi and my daughter has inherited the renault clio 1.2 so i had no wheels. My work mates son bought a audi a4 estate 2years ago and it hadnt turned a wheel since as he had his license taken off him. he wanted rid of it and said i could have it for a 100 pounds so i bought it and had it delivered to my house from north wales. this cost 100 quid, same as cost of car. since then 2 months have passed. Ihave fitted a leather interior, sorted the brakes fitted cam belt kit. Now needs tyres as all bald and then insure it which is 150 fully comp then m o t it.
Right, well the sheds days have ended! This afternoon I put it up on Gumtree, accepted £450 cash for it tonight. The new owner is collecting it tomorrow evening, and the replacement is already here. I only got a couple of snaps earlier, ill give it a proper clean and photo's at the weekend.....
I paid £500 all in, with MOT and Tax till next year some point (I should check when)

Stricktly, this car is also free! lol 1.9 DCi Dynamique

VERY tempted to shed around in one of these because they are so cheap but I am also TERRIFIED of the bork potential - they're worse than some old prestige barges for throwing massive bills at people - how many miles has it done?I paid £500 all in, with MOT and Tax till next year some point (I should check when)

Keeping a very close eye on this thread for updates as you live with it!
Indeed its a Scenic. I've been going through reciepts, it appears that with 4 springs, and two rear tyres replaced, it may have already happened. New dashboard two years ago due to failure, and a new turbo and injectors last year. Well, im happy! I must grab some pictures of it later, but for now, its been sitting nicely at 47mpg with my driving, quite happy!

A friend of mine has one, the clocks have failed before and the turbo might be dying, so top work there! Its had a good run today, the 40 mile work commute, then this evening I went and picked up my new mountain bike (god the seats coming out is good). So 90 miles in, 51mpg, comfy as you like. Ive found one thing wrong, the drivers rear windows doesn't work. Im going to check the switches, then the motor. But the blinds are perfect, it even has the child watching mirror, which is weird.
Borkage potential so far, hopefully not much. Ive noted both front tyres are down to 3mm, so im looking for some 5-7mm part worns for the winter, before I chuck something better on there. Looks to be 205/55/17, and not many places have them.
