Throttle response delay

Hi people,
Got a fault today, as per title, engine fluffs instead of revving up.
Higher revs can be achieved by increasing thottle gently, floor it and nothing.
Hoping it's just something I've disturbed.
Can anyone tell me what to look for?

Think it was just a niggle but I was slightly worried that it was going to miss very special jollies over the next couple of days.
Got 19mpg round trip today between speed cameras, the missing 10 mpg expressed mostly as noise.
