How fast did you go on the AUTOBAHN

...Not that I have anything particularly exciting to report.

But how fast, what car, did you overtake or pull away from anyone or anything?

I got up to 140mph in my 41 year old Saab 99. It was starting to feel twichy at that speed with no front air-dam, but had gearing for 162 and probably the power as well. ToYo R888 tyres and a 16v turbo transplant quite useful in getting to that speed.

167mph on the GPS in my RS2.


175 on my Blackbird although I couldn't see the GPS that clearly because my eyeballs were moving too much


135ish in a ste 150PD Golf MKIV

and

138ish in a MKV Golf GTi


A sobering flat lining 130mph in a 525 diesel

An enjoyable 145 in a 330ci

A get of my way-ing 145 in a 2010 Mustang

also a wiper lifting 140 ish in a MK1 Impreza.

Over 100 in a Volvo 850 2.0 10v coming back from the World Cup in 2006. Was almost certain I'd seen the no limit signs and had a proper panic when I realised I was crossing into dutchland in triple figures and guys with machine guns were wondering why I was going so quick - oops!

Suppose this wasn't actually on the autobahn...

Was disappointing because I had visions of seeing Porsches fly by at 180mph but we were always the fastest car and around.

I didn't actually know about the 'no-limit' signs and just drove all over Germany as fast as I could... assuming every road was unlimited. Live to tell the tale.

Quivering ring-piece as well I would have thought! If anything had gone wrong no doubt you would have been destroyed. Not a bad way to go though!

Only the same as wringing out a car to be honest. Either way at VMAX you'd be toast if some knob decided to 'make your day'.

Most recent was on the A5 between Strasbourg and Basel around 160 mph on an overnight run home from Italy in very light traffic.Only one car was accelerating at a similar rate after the destriction signs and decided to overtake what 'looks like' just a standard almost 30 year old Jag and then obviously gave up,without ever getting more than half a car's length alongside,at around 150 mph.However in general it's impossible to tell exactly what you've,overtaken,outrun,or been outrun by, with the speed differentials and concentration needed at the types of speeds involved.

I guess you're right. Even in a car you're likely a bit fecked after about 50.

You want to do an ageVspeed thread. I think you'd pro itbly have a good chance coming high up the list. I find it hard to believe a 99 turbo is so old.

Indicated 160mph in a stock 335d.

135 in my old 197, it was pretty stable, no issues. There was nothing else left in the engine either, it was hitting the rev limiter in 6th. All was well until an Alfa 156 pulled out in front of me, for a few seconds I thought the rear of my car would actually lift off the ground.

I was regularly overtaken by German uber-barges and various sportscars while doing 120-ish.

Sadly I think you will find the ones that could are also limited to 155

For me 80MPH. 2 reasons.

1. 1300 cc and max speed of 96

2. didn't know where the unlimited sections were

All through Germany at 70-80 MPH passed 2 cars, 2 Citroen 2CVs
