Ok.. I'm driving for up to 15 to 20 mins no problem,
Then suddenly it feels like the brakes are binding.. Then NO BRAKES!! ok pump em they come back up, but still scary!
Smoke coming from back end down to drips of fluid hitting something hot?
Next day brakes fine and dandy.. Not had it out for more than 5 or 10 mins since to be fair.

Any ideas? I'm guessing expansion as its getting warmer? And the fluid leaking, the brake fluid tank does looks a little on the high side.

Is your braking problem feel like its from the front or the rear of the car.
If your getting brake fluid dripping onto a hot exhaust, that is not good as it could cause a fire,
It could be a collapset rear hose can causing the brakes to drag and or weep fluid if perished.

Check all your pipes for damage and wetness

no its from the back, the fluid and smoke is from the back,
I thought it was a bit of oil from the dif dripping onto the brakes, but cause the brakes went to the boards, in guessing its brake fluid.. Like I say fine when cold.. But as it gets warm about 15 20 mins of driving! Very strange..

Oh dear. You'll be needing the rear brakes looking at, sharpish.

Probably one pad dragging, causing the fluid to boil so no brakes. Once the fluid cools they come back for a while... usually till the next time you brake, when the pad drags again... ask me how I know banghead

Hi Ian

Yeah gonna get someone pro to look.
Can't take risks with breaks
If a pad was dragging, would I be able to easily push the car in neutral?

Mine would.

I ended up having to change the diff output shaft seals as well, as they were weeping.

XJ6 or XJS.

Jack up car and put a pair of axle stands under the chassis tubes where the front of the diff cradle is bolted to the chassis.
Remove the rear wheels and put them under the sills (in case the axle stands collapse).
That gives you about as much access as you can get without a pit or a body lift.
To jack the rear, find a block of wood that fits into the U-channel below and behind the diff, use that to cushion the trolley jack.
You could jack the diff. itself but that's a bit... monkey wink

Thanks Ian.. I've found a couple of XJ6 Calapers new £160.00
I'm pretty sure that's a good price!?

It is something I would have a go at every day if the week, I'm just unsure with the in board set up.
May get a pro to look at it.

Had exact same problem. As said before had to rebuild everything connected to the braking system at the back. Horrendous job good luck rick.
