I have just started using BT braodband Installed the software on my windows 98 machine, works fine.

My office have ordered me a wireless router to connect my work laptop through. But the IT guys say they need my BT broadband account id and password. I don't know what they are and can't find them on my 98 machine.

I've waited in a queue for BT hlep for a while, anyone here now how I can get them from my existing 98 machine ?.

BT Broadband doesn't use a password.

You're username is yourname@btbroadband.com

BT Broadband help said:

BT Broadband is an access-only product. This means that, once you have paid for the service you get continual access. Only lines with BT Broadband activated on them can gain access when the username is inputted to the dialler. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer services (such as email, web space, content channels) that you can only access because you are authenticated when you input your username and password. As BT Broadband does not offer these services, no authentication is needed. Therefore you do not need a password and inputting one will not provide you with any level of security. To protect your computer you are strongly advised to install a firewall and anti-virus software (please visit www.btbroadbandstart.com for more information from our partners offering security products).

I had exactly the same issue. You can get the coordinates you are after:
1. from your bill; or
2. by going into "internet connections". The account info will be logged in there somewhere.

When you order the B/Band from BT the send you various emails, one of which will confirm your details.

On IE, go into tools-interent options-connection and then highlight the BT conection and go to settings, the details will be there. It should look something like yourname@hg*.btinternet
* will be a number
your password will be whatever you use to log on with.
