So I turned on my xbox this morning and tried to connect to live, only to be presented with another update request. Updates never seem to downloaded via the (Microsoft) wireless adapter I have so always have to use a USB stick. This didn't work either. I've tried formatting the USB stick (to FAT32), I've tried several times, tried all the USB ports, and still it won't update.

I can't connect to live without the update, and I'm sick of this not being as straightforward as it ought to be. Can someone please help before the xbox goes on ebay and my preorder for the PS4 goes in.

Thanks

Yes I use wifi but also had the problem with a wired connection. You can use a usb stick to transfer the update file from a pc to the xbox. Neither of these methods work on my xbox.

I had the same problem the other day, delete the cache from the system memory menu then run a connection test and it should work. If not, turn the box off, turn it back on while holding down the pairing button on the front of it, that will delete the update cache and will re-download any updates not already applied.

If that still doesn't work you'll need to contact MS support. Are you part of the LIVE Beta test?

Try adding the Xbox Live ports to your WIFI router's firewall.

Or even better add your xbox IP address(make it static first) to the DMZ. That should improve your connection anyway.

This still isn't working. I've tried to access the ports on my router (D Link 2680) and I can't get in as it needs a password, and my xbox won't let me switch it on.

Can someone please help as I'm getting very frustrated with this, I thought linking my xbox to the internet was meant to be easy, and it's provingnot to be. I'm not the most computer literate of people, however it has worked before.

Thanks.

Tried opening the correct ports, tried a wired connection, still nothing.

Am seriously tempted to sell up now, this is too much like hard work! madmad

Is there a reason you dont have the password to the router? Is it a landlord owned router?

Sorted that out, a bit of research on the internet got me that info. Opened the ports, notihng, new USB devices, nope not working, been online with a MS agent for an hour now, and their conclusion is that it's broken, and they would like to charge me for repairs. Sounds like the money will be better spent on a PS4 to me.
