Has anyone fitted one of these?
They are lighter, twice as powerful and drawer about half the current of the original. Apparently
But.... They are really expensive
I don't mind spending the money if they are really that good
So does anyone know what they are like?

I Have one of these on my 400. They are small and spin the engine quite well. They also look the part but not sure it warrants the price.

Thanks, just don't want to go the cheap route and have the same hot starting problems but at more than twice the price it's not an easy decision.

If I had to I would buy one again if only for ease of fitment. Their customer service is also excellent.

The site britishstarters.com sells them with a lifetime warranty. The mounting plate can be unbolted, and the body of the starter rotated to best fit your application, so I had zero clearance issues. They sell a 1.9 HP unit for the V8 Rovers for $225 +48 shipping.

My 350i had multiple starter rebuilds and failures, never lasted long at all - solved for ages after fitting one of theirs. About five years later I had an issue with the new one's solenoid and they replaced the starter under warranty without any hassle, and in the process moved me up to the 1.9HP unit (as mine was the lower powered one).

My Griffith had starter problems - solved by using one of their starters as well, has not missed a beat regardless of heat, and have not done the hot start mod.

In both cases spin faster, sit farther from the manifolds (as they are smaller - therefore don't get as hot).

Not too expensive in my view - and reliable. Don't know how they compared to the one the original poster mentioned, and don't know if they could supply one for the V6 cars.

Sorry if I sound like an advert.

I fitted a Denso one on the 350i looks like ebay item 260929598118.

Worked really well and turned over the engine very quickly so starting was almost instant.

Then doing a search you can get a britpart one for £45! At that price chuck it away if it goes wrong... http://www.lrdirect.com/RTC6061N-supplied-by-britp...

I cannot fault these guys

HillMart UK Ltd ( Alternatormart ), Astley Street, Dukinfield, Cheshire, SK16 4QS, UNITED KINGDOM, 0161 330 5466

They only deal in new items and not recon ones. I had loads of issues with the 400SE a few years ago and the one they supplied me is still going strong.
Also used them on the Jeep after killing 3 Starters going though deep muddy water. After fitting one of their units, I never had any issues after.

Give them a call
