Stripped thread on brake master cylinder
Discussion
What a

I have just had the peddle box out, fitted new clutch and brake master cylinder whilst I'm in there re assembled and stripped a f
g thread on the master cylinder hydraulic. What a completed tosser!

What are my options here - having paid £100+ for the mc is it ow just scrap or can I tap it and fit next size up union!

If it's an internal thread in a port that accepts an olived or other type of compression fitting, it might be difficult to tap or fit an insert without damaging whatever is the machined face at the bottom of the port... My immediate thought was use a Wurth Timesert but that would need to be cleverly installed due to the cutting depths of the tooling used... Definitely strong enough and permanent if enough room to get one in and locked somehow...
As above, don't take any risks with the brakes on your TVR but before binning the stripped master cylinder, speak with somebody who's experienced with this sort of stuff.
I've just had all the brakes off my Maserati refurbished by Past Parts Ltd (http://www.pastparts.co.uk/) who did a fantastic job on grotty 40 year old stuff. They may be able to recover the thread, or confirm that it's scrap.
Feel for you though and good luck.

Guys, thank you all for your responses, all within 24 hours, which makes this forum a great place to be
A few pints later and a good nights kip and I've bit the bullet and bought another cylinder. Tvr specialist supplier and they couldn't tell me the thread FFS. It would appear they are a right mixed bag of threads so if your planning this job be carefully.
Anyways, bunked a day off work stripped it all back down and have it all back together again and all seems well. So new servo , brake pads, master cylinder, clutch master cylinder and pipes! Test drive tomorrow but hopefully all is now sorted.
If you haven't had the pleasure of taking out the peddle box you haven't found the worst possible job on a tvr!! Should have paid someone to do this - it's taken me the best part of 30 hours

It's a love/hate thing!
