First impressions of my new Boxster Spyder
Discussion
Picked up my new Spyder on Saturday after spending ages deliberating over what I should get to replace my 997 gen1 and Ducati, the latter which I had to sell for reasons I won’t bore you with – and what a car it is! I should also say thanks to Simon at OPC Kendal who made it a great enjoyable, trouble-free buying experience.
I’ve had 3 Boxsters previously, the latest being a 2006 S, all of which I liked, but this is a very different experience. Yes the ride is more Donnington Park than my local roads but I’m lucky enough to be able to get out quickly into the Peak District which is way smoother. It’s exactly the spec I was looking for with PSE / Sports Chrono / buckets / Spyder wheels. I went for PDK with the paddle shift wheel as I fancied a change from manual and I must say it’s amazing how it shifts so seamlessly straight back into the power band at high revs - sounds like MotoGP bikes using the quickshifter as they fire out of a bend! Turn in is also unbelievably sharp with amazing control and grip mid-corner.
I used to drive TVRs back in the late 90s / early 2000s and for me personally, this is the first car I’ve driven since that at times seems almost intimidating – but yet combined with Porsche engineering and build. I think it’s a combination of the cabin ambience (with restricted rear visibility), the control weights, suspension set-up and the noise. It’s certainly much more of an event than my 997 was, although obviously designed for a different purpose. As for the roof, it’s better than I thought it’d be and no-where near as noisy as some have said. And it isn’t going to be on that often anyway. Anyway, as you can gather I’m well happy with it. If there are any other Spydery types close to the Sheffield area, let me know and we can meet up for a blast. Pic is attached

Congratulations on the new car!
I picked up a Spyder a few weeks ago and think it's a fantastic car.
There's a pretty epic Spyder thread on the Boxster forum here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/default.asp which has got quite a bit of info and is well worth a read to new owners like us.

You two should get yourselves on the list.

Love the Spyder. Shame that the third brake light has to be up so high and couldn't have been integrated into the spolier though IMO. Presumably there is a strict height requirement here as on the 981, they were able to integrate the reversing light into spoiler but must have been oblidged to find a higher spot for the third brake light...
