Hello,

I'm currently in the process of importing a C5 from the US (Counting the Days) and am after some advise:

Ive seen another post on here about the 'Jacking Pucks' can anyone point me in the right direction of where I can get them from and roughly how much they cost?

Also for the SVA do the front headlamps need to be replaced? Ive had different information regarding these and wondered if anyones imported one here and knows first hand.

Is there also anything not obvious that needs doing for the SVA?

Thanks for your help and sorry my 1st post is questions.

Thanks

No doubt the other guys will chip in, but these links should help start you off. LU5IFER's site is highly recommended and has helped several Vette owners.

As regards Jacking pucks, I think I paid about £11 for a set of four from my local BMW dealer.

What are you getting (not another yellow one, I hope) and when will it be here?

Hi,

My C5 is still in the US but I've been doing all the mods ready for its return.

Lus1fer's site is great for all the info you need.

The stock headlights will adjust to dip left but the output is not great. I've bought the T85 Brit standard lights (GM Part No 15515267-1(L) and 15515268-1(R). Got them from PFYC online. it includes a plug and play harness (Part No 109043)to plug into the standard wiring. Don't go for the T84s as these are for Europe (dip right). The T85s are about $400 a set and will take high wattage bulbs. The advantage of the T85s is that they have a housing for the sidelights which you can tap from the normal sidelight circuit.

LuS1fers web site explains all the mods you need (tail lights, side repeaters, fog light). There are quite specific rules for fitting. The SVA Manual which is available gives the detail. I have a copy if you need it.

Best of luck and great choice of your new car!

Thanks very much for the info guys, I'm tempted to give the SVA work a go myself, I'll wait till shes here and see how confident I am.

With the jacking pucks is it a standard BMW part, dont suppose you have a part number by any chance?

I've got a 99 6 speed, Targa top in Pewter, I would have loved a yellow one though. The ship set sail yesterday so should be here in a couple of weeks....cant wait!!

Thanks again for your help guys.

Good luck with the import and doing the mods. There are various option for how to pass the SVA. Personally I went with not changing the headlights (with the option of putting a more powerful bulb in if I feel the need - which so far I don't), putting the side repeaters in the gills behind the front wheel and then splitting the amber running lights to put a white side-light in. I didn't do the work myself so I can't offer any advice on the technical side other than to look at Lu51fer's site :-)

When importing mine (along with all my personal belongings) I had a worrying few days when the ship arrived and my container wasn't on it!! Took them a while to track it down! Got it in the end, though :-)

My invoice for the jacking pucks is as follows:

Part no B51.71.1.960.752 Jack Support E36

They cost exactly £11.00 for all four including VAT.

BTW you have mail Nathan.

Nathan welcome!

I bought a set of 4 ally ones, but only ever use one or at most two. You are welcome to the other two.

Kenski, just out of interest how did they manage to 'misplace' your container? :-)

Thanks for the offer of the Pucks vetteheadracer, I've dropped you a mail.

The SVA work is quite straightforward for anyone who can undo a nut, can solder some connections and preferably has small hands. I never changed my headlamps and it passed but I would recommend you consider a column lock bypass.

A friend of mine is currently doing the work on his 2003 Z06 and has come up with a few tips of his own. For one, you can buy a pre-wired relay kit from Halfords for £11 which you can use with the fog light switch of your choice. This speeds up the foglight fitment.

I'll also have to alter the website as Bauer Millett overcharged me for the C5 sidelight pods and they are £30 the pair, not each although BM have now refunded me the money and supplied the additional bulb holders.

How did they misplace a 40' container? Good question... I asked them the self-same thing and they said (somewhat offhand) 'Oh, it happens'...

It was logged as being put on one ship but when the boat was unloaded it wasn't onboard. Turned out it had been bumped to the next one.

The shipping industry is a very fly-by-night one in my opinion. Companies seem to buy random space on various boats and then bounce things around if they can't get on the ship they want.

Had the same problem when I shipped the Camaro. Called the Company to be told "its rolled over"! Had visions of the car inside the box on its roof! Turned out it's shipping banter for transferred to the next ship. Wasted a few heartbeats there!
