Anyone swapped seats from buckets to sports seats?

I have a Cayman R with the carbon bucket seats which are absolutely fantastic when you are in them but getting in and out is just a pain!

I'm putting my flame suit on as I know many say it's one of the reasons it's part of what the car is all about!

Anyhow.. the plan is to buy a used set of front sports seats to replace the buckets but keep the buckets for resale p/x or perhaps if I change my mind later on.

Question is how easy to swap them over.. Noticed that the Sports seats have electronic adjustment and if I DIY, is it a simple task without any error code problems?

I forgot to mention that I do occasional lifts to from friends who are not 100% as mobile as some of us younger gents and I have to get out of my car just to help him get in and out of the car!

Yes, I can get away with it when I'm in it most of the time but it just limits it's use when I end up just taking my workhorse car out instead of the R because of it.

just change the passenger one then. You really shouldn't compromise on the enhancement they make to the driving experience.

Don't do it - they arn't that hard to get in and out of.

Stick with the bucket seats and go on a diet instead. Will be miles easier to haul yourself out and you might live a few years longer to boot!

Bit pointless telling him they aren't that difficult to get in and out of, seeing as he has them and he finds them difficult to get in and out of, no?

For an 'occasional' lift is it not easier and cheaper to just use the work horse?

Why compromise your car? I'd rather compromise my odd journey when doing taxi duties.

Bit of a "once size fits all" opinion you have there, I take it you run buckets in your car then?

The OP raised the question, so must be an issue "for him" in a daily?

Possibly right about the R to 981 though, would be easier?

They are hard to get in and out of. Comments from my wife last week after driving back in 7.2 GT3 RS from Austria, " I hate this car, seats are impossible to get into and out " . For anyone over 35 they are indeed hard to use, but I would not swap mine for the world, as a drivers seat in a drivers car they are superb, I can live with them, not my wife !

I've calculated I'm only doing around 4k miles a year in the R, so I'm really not gettng as much usage as I would prefer.

I do gives lifts frequent'ish to friends who are well over 60 and yes, I end up taking my workhorse most of the time! Hence not using the R!!

I love the R, the rawness and yes, the seats too over an S for example but I would sacrifice the seats just to use the car more! The Sport seats I've sat in before do offer good support anyhow (albeit not as good as buckets granted) but I want to use this car more than what I'm doing so far!

I also plan to keep the buckets so will always have the option to bolt them back on, especially if it's an easy DIY job!

I know I'm saving 12kgs but when one of my "older" friends are in, they must weigh 100 kgs lol

It maybe good to try it and see as it's easier enought o sell the sports seats on if I decide it's not for me or when and if I decide to sell the R

people getting a lift should be grateful for the lift surely, not moan about the seats?

I totally understand your reasons why.
it's not as if you're changing them for ever.

For what it's worth, and this also goes against everything PH, I dislike the buckets immensely and much prefer the sports seats.
Not because I'm overly fat or big (6' 4", 95kg) but I just don't find them comfy - back rest is set too upright for me for one thing.

My back is also not quite as good as 20 years ago, and I found getting out the buckets I ended up twisting more than I should.
My car only does 6k miles a year and I wouldn't even do that many if I'd had buckets.

But apparently, even if one thinks they're a problem, doesn't mean they are a problem.

I took the shell seats out of my 968CS after a year or so and replaced them with early Tombstone sports seats in black leather.

I sold the car like that too!

I am large, though I'm down from 112kg to 105kg since I retired from playing rugby a few years ago. My years as a front row forward have left me with a tendency to lower back pain and a stiff left hip - these seats exacerbate the problem.

Buckets do not suit everyone and I think the OP's idea is a sound one - he can return the car to the buckets anytime he likes.

Get on ebay!

I have a CR with buckets. Personally, I love them but my Mrs hates them. I find you need to be seated in them absolutely correctly for them to be comfortable on long journeys but of you are then they are better than any other seat I've sat in.

I have a tendency to push my lower back as far into the seat as possible. In the CR this translates into lower back pain after a while. The trick in the CR I find is to sit normally and if anything perhaps move your butt slightly forward, then they are awesome!

Sooty, there are bound to be loads of people who have moved from sports seats to buckets, so presumably, the process is the same. I'd look on Ebay for something that meets your needs and then keep the buckets (they're worth a fortune!) When you sell the car, you can decide if it's worth swapping them back over or not. It might make sense to sell them separately?

It will be interesting if and when selling the CR if in fact an OPC (or any trade dealer for that matter) will give you less for the car with the optional no cost option Sports Seats?

If this was the case it would make sense to sell the Carbon Fibre Buckets separate as I'm pretty darn sure these are very much in demand as they are £6k to buy separately from what I have read!!!

I reckon it'll be worth only a little bit less but will be harder to sell.
