911 Targa Colour Conundrum..

Hello!!
I'm wondering if you chaps can help me decide what colour to paint my '85 911 Targa when I've completed the restoration. It needs to be a flat colour because I'll be painting it myself, and being an all year round daily driver it'll also be much easier to touch up any minor dings or rust (than metallic).
It won't be a concourse car by any means, but as I'm selling within the next year or two I want a colour with the broadest appeal. I'd already decided on black but one of my friends (with generally much better taste than me) says I should go for dark blue because it suits the 911 much better. Apparently nobody will buy it if it's black..
Here's a pic of her car, which she spent a long time searching for cos it just had to be that colour.. What do you all think; is she nuts, or do I have terrible taste? Many thanks in advance!!

|http://thumbsnap.com/efMxzJcz[/urIf you have to stay with flat paint then assuming the interior is black I would go for either white or guards red - both contemporary back then and still look good in my opinion today. Dark blue looks smart but does not really stand out in my view (blue metallics are however the opposite).
For what it is worth when choosing I was after either a metallic, red, or white, but with condition being the main consideration. I think some 'before' and 'during' photos would be a good move during the respray, so you can reassure people that the car is solid, any rust sorted and the paint properly done, and is not just a quick blow over before sale as some cars appear to have had.

Re taking pics before and during.. I'm almost a year into the resto so far with probably around 500 pics, so the trouble will be whittling them down into something worth keeping with the car. There are many between this...

And it's the same on the other side. Then there's the front wings, inner wings, and windscreen surround. And then probably lots more I haven't found yet..
If anyone else is in the midst of similar then I'm feeling your pain brother.. Otherwise, if you're just considering poking around at that bit of rust near the kidney bowl with the view to sorting it yourself, then be warned!! It's a massive undertaking to do it properly, especially having to make up so many repair sections from scratch. I'm trying to enjoy 'the doing' as much possible, but it's hard when it's been the nicest summer in years!!
Anyway, back to the garage..

Many thanks! You're right, it should really be a keeper but it seems a shame to use it all year round after all this work. I have an old 911 for the summer, so I thought i'd just enjoy the targa for a year and then say goodbye. If kept in a garage i'm sure it will last for many years without needing much work, but british winters just kill these cars, and it really deteriorated in the 3 years i used it daily.

Slightly shocked to see that much corrosion but full marks for rigoursly sorting it out.
If its broad appeal that you are after then I would have thought that period red or black would do the trick.
Interms of solid blue colours, one day I will own a car in the Ferrari colour, Blu Pozzi (a solid blue but I beleive it has to be clear coated).
I have loved this colour for many years but seeing this F40 sealed it for me (although in this image, it looks a bit lighter than it appears in person).
It may sound crazy but I may even have my Lapis 986 restored in this colour one day!

That's a very nice blue!! Shame it needs to be clear coated though, as I'd be almost back to the hassle of metallic. Black is a good shout though, and I'm glad someone mentioned it!
I see you're from switzerland, so you might have spotted that my friend's 911 in the OP is there too. She's in Lenzburg though.
The rust is especially bad on the drivers side because the car had a State of Washington ID plate attached to the b pillar when it was in the US for a few years. The idiot that fitted it drilled right into the kidney bowl underneath, and this is where all the rust seems to have stemmed from.
Luckily I've since found that the kidney bowl on the other side is really solid, which is a nice surprise and has probably saved me a few weeks (I work very slowly..)

Now that's a thought, thanks!! I googled some pics of viper green targas and I see what you mean, it's a great contrast.
