2CVs 24 hour race at Snetterton
Discussion
I've been the observer in the safety car in the past. Some drivers have been embarrassed slightly when those damn 2CVs kept up with us on the safety car in lap (or did not disappear from the mirrors as quickly as we expected). Slipstreaming every last mph out of us.
Good luck all, I plan to be there this afternoon.

This is the most fun race of the year, it was my 6th time doing it, car 90 Team Somfy (Old JB Doors) I would recomend it to anyone, I mean my dad says it is the most fun he has had in a race car and he use to race F1 and LeMans!
The first two and a half hours was some of the best racing I've had ever, leading for about 95% of it I might add ;-) but having the top 6 (UK cars) coverd by just over 2 seconds at the two hour mark is unbelievable and good clean racing might I add. Here's to 2014, looking forward to it already.

I was back again for the 4th year in succession and my 5th in total. As Anthony (Wildsiejr) says, it is a really fun race to do, not fun in messing about in motors but it's a real motor race and requiring a high degree of skill, it's just done in a really great spirit. I was asked by the commentating team what I was talking to my rival about (driver from another team) and I made the point the we are all friends on track until the last hour, acting as draft buddies etc. as well as friends in the pits, helping each other out when in need.
Unfortunately we had engine woes throughout the weekend, eventually costing us 25 pitstops and 4 or was it 5 engine changes, inc a complete engine rebuild 'in race' but we had fun.
Here is a video from the opening stint of the race, me hooking up with a then unknown driver in a 'rival' car. Drafting like this we were both setting laptimes over 2 secs faster than we did in quali (you make a brief appearance at the end Anthony).

I have heard £1,500 bandied around (25% drive) but am sure it varies team to team. I know the entry fee has gone up considerably so it might be a bit higher now. Sadly the number of UK cars has declined somewhat over the years, 23-24 this year, + 4 euro cars (different class) to make up the numbers and budget.
You get the Friday test day in that, 4 x 30 min sessions, 2 x 1hr quali's and the 24hr itself.
There is always a matchmaking thread on the forum every year and often drives available even close to race day. This is the 2013 thread.

At last a thread about this fabulous race that isn't just taking the piss.
The cost of drives varies from team to team but £1500 to £2000 is around the mark.
We had a good run this year with both cars leading for some time,we changed an engine on the Team Somfy car which took just over 7 minutes including refuelling and then changed the carb 4 hrs later as the pace had dropped by 3 seconds a lap,the gearbox mount collapsed so we ratchet strapped the gearbox in to continue which is how we ran until the end.
We changed the carb on Porky Boys car after the air filter broke and filled the carb with crap(4 minutes) and ran pretty consistently after that, nursing a failing radius arm bearing.Overall 2nd and 6th in class was a great result.
I say, don't knock it til you've tried it,Phil Bennett ,Gareth Howells ,Mike wilds can't all be wrong can they.
