Had a go in one of these earlier in the week - what an awesome car! It's super quick, the kids fit in it and it sounds incredible. In sports mode it's very comfortable and it's well-judged for road use, no scuttle shake, just epic pace and phenomenal traction. In fact the only thing "wrong" with it is the price - £96k before you've ticked single option, by the time you've finished with the options you'd want, you might as well get a new 991 GT3! (apart from the seating issue of course).

I truly believe that the GT3 looks like something of a bargain in relation to the pricing of the rest of the range! Surely Porsche will realise this and 'correct' it when the GT3 RS is released...

Agree - GT3 looks like a bargain when compared to the regular cars!

I have got the C2S cab at the moment and I know what you mean. Even with "only" rear wheel drive, it's a rapid car and I have felt no lack of grip or traction for all that. I know it's all been said before, but it's really hard to tell it's a cab, they are that good and the roof with the metal panels under the canvas is a real work of art/engineering.

Surely, the C4S cab buyer is totally different to the GT3 buyer and has different requirements?

How many people having bought one, come on here complaining about the heavy clutch, too hard, wrong gearing, too fast, too compromised, too noisy etc etc.

Is the new 991 really going to narrow the gap that much?

If you want a 4 wheel drive cabby, er, isn't that what you want?

Motor Trend just voted the 991 C4S their Best Drivers' Car 2013' against some pretty stiff opposition.

It all depends what you want, but a highly spec'd C4S might be a better everyday road car than a GT3.

Thanks JP, sounds like a car that has it all, every review has been so positive. Agree the price is high especially after options probably will be a good buy in a year or two, though I imagine OPC who are clued on will offer more discounts on these. Will be driving one on track in a couple of week so will report back.

Still looking here one with PSE up close.

I've just been lent a C4 Cab for the weekend and it is absolutely lovely. It's like driving on railway lines. With the wind deflector up it feels so civilised. What a work of design that "pop up" deflector is too!

Still enjoying mine after more than a year (991 C2S Cab). I've had it longer than the GTS already, which says something. Amazing range of capabilities: Drives every bit as well as the coupe, beautiful scenery enjoyed in windless calm (deflector up), hear that PSE crisp and clear, greater sense of connection when the roof it down, quiet cruiser when you need it to be, endless headroom for adults in the rear on short trips. And better looking to boot!!

All of which makes it such a fine counterpoint to the more purpose-built GT3. And yes, the GT3 looks flipping cheap to me too.

Is the PSE much louder than on the GTS?

I saw a C4S Coupe at my OPC. Amazing how much the extra few mm of width improves the shape of the 991. Time was when the C4S was maybe seen as a bit of a lardy cruiser, but the new one looks the business IMO.

WRT pricing, this is very much down to the spec. I played with the 'configurator' and a base GT3 or Turbo looks good value, but the cost rapidly rises with the desirable options.

Yes, you can get a C4S Coupe specd to £110k+ but it would haves a lot of useful toys and driver aids, and you would expect to have some negotiating leverage with the dealer.

Yes. In fact I've put a sock (almost literally) in the sound symposer inlet port so as to hear the exhaust unaugmented by the interior noise. Pops and bangs on the overrun are just rude.

I agree that if you want a cab then, yes clearly a GT3 won't suit. But whenever I buy a car, I consider what else I could get for the money and the thing is that I'd be very happy with a GT3 at the £106k mark, which is pretty much what the C4S would cost after options. If you could have the option of rear seats in the 991 GT3, it would be a no-brainer to buy that over a C4S cab, unless you really wanted a cab! Also 991 GT3 doesn't have any of the heavy clutch issues, doesn't sound like it's overly firm either - the C4S is already epically quick anyway, so if "too fast" was an issue then I suspect you shouldn't really be looking at a Porsche at this proce point any way.

Wind deflectors are the work of the devil. Horrible! IMO.

Do you have a choice with the deflector? This one just had a button in the centre console that you pressed and it popped up. I guess you just choose to leave it down if you don't like it. I thought it was a clever bit of kit though!

The wind deflector is fantastic. Makes the cabin so calm when you want to relax, and just leave it down when you want wind on your bald patch. So easy to deploy. Wonderful.

I'm afraid it's either roof down (windows down and no wind deflector) or roof up. IMO if you need a wind deflector then you've bought the wrong car. Buy one with a sunroof. Cabs are supposed to be draughty. And draught excluders look naff as well and make the car look like a pram. All IMHO of course.
