Thinking of selling the Griff
Discussion
Hi guys im thinking of selling the Griff as I'm not getting any use out it and now have the 3000m that I am restoring but unsure which way round to do it. The car is in my opinion in great condition mechanically and chassis is pretty much rot free. The paint is good but does have the odd chip here and there. I dont need to sell so am not in a hurry but was wondering if it would be worth getting the car in A1 condition before selling including a full body off, chassis shot blast and powder coated and the paitwork attended to. The car has done 75k now but has had loads of work done so is in perfect running condition now.
Any help or adive would be great
Chris
Why not have both? Keep the Griff and finish the 3000M, therefore having a Griff companion! Even if you only do a 1000 miles a year, try and use it as much as practically possible, keep it running checked over etc! Just because you are not out in it every day of the week does not constitute a need to sell it! Unless you need the cash for your project keep the Griff. Rgds, Pete
With 75k on the clock I would doubt if you'd recoup the cost of a body-off chassis refurb in the eventual sale price.
You should keep it though as it's an appreciating asset. Right now we're only just above the bottom of the market. It'll likely show better growth than money in the bank even if you don't do that many miles.

The body off wouldnt cost that much mainly my time and the cost of shot blasting and powder coating and geometry resetting as everything else needed has been done. I do really need to sell one either the 3000m or the Griff at some point as I only have room to keep one in the garage. The Griff at the moment is in a large waterproof marquee i have set up on the garden patio area but I cant really keep that there permanently. While I dont need the money directley it would be handy. Then there is the cost of keeping it insurance road tax servicing etc and you soon hit a few hundred pounds a year before you start this year I have done less than 500miles so as an investment it doesnt make much sense. Does 75k really put people off buying? I have seen plenty of Griffs with low mileage asking £20k+ that are in what I would describe as poor condition. I was thinking around mine would be somewhere around the £15k mark as it is and maybe £18k with a full body off and repaint.

Sorry Chris, don`t see those £ figures with mileage and time of year. (+ don`t want to see you leave the dark side)I bought my Griff with 91k on the clock. It did not put me off compared to a 20K car that has sat unused for most of its life.
I really do think a car with good strong mileage that has been well maintained will be more reliable that one that is hardly ever driven.
I do think you are a touch optomistic with the price given the current market, and I agree also that the only way is up for the price of these cars.
Best of luck whichever way you go.

I'm surprised by the replies saying that £15k is high and optimistic. Mine is a 97 with full leather pas and loads of sensible upgrades. The price range on here for 97 to 98 Griffs seems to start at £17k and go on up to £28k so I thought £15k as it is was a good price.

Err no not in your colour, will never sell, wrong time of year, you will just have to keep it take it to Le Mans next year and buy me a pint where you will express great gratitude that you had a silly thought in 2013 and nearly sold her... Chris
