After far to long driving a 1987 Honda Ballade I decided it was about time I purchased a vehicle more fitting of a young single chap that never takes passengers or goes very far. The search started with two seat roadsters and sports cars, moved on to hot hatches and also a Nissan Cube for a few days - lord knows why the Cube????

Then I spotted an add for a BMW 728i and used the finest man maths to conclude this was surely the transport that suited my needs. By chance the seller was looking to trade for a motorbike and my old Suzuki GSX750F that was worth no more than £1000 wasn't doing much so a deal was arrange, I headed to Brighton and a straight swap was done.

Now a 7 series for a grand seems too good to be true and can surely only lead to a world of ruin but apart from a couple of very minor niggles she really seems to be a goodun so far. 128k on the clock but you'd never know it, full service history most of which is with BMW & without a doubt the smoothest, most comfortable ride this side of Vanessa Feltz. Of course I'm well aware in time it shall financially cripple me but so far I'm even averaging 31mpg. I'll update as and when things go south though just as long as I can see through my tears.

That looks magnificent. The last of the good-looking 7-series (IMHO). Once Bangle got hold of them they were never the same.

I very nearly bought a 740Li of similar vintage, but it had done 140k and had a ropey service history so I decided to pass.

More pics would be great smile Is yours the LWB version?

Lovely looking car!
With a good service history, 128k miles is nothing to worry about!

The biggest issue with E38 ownership, arrives when you sell it, you will miss it and all subsequent cars will seem inferior. Enjoy!

That is the best engine in the e38. Not super quick, but it moves and in mine I averaged 30mpg+ too. You may get a couple of niggles, but it shouldn't even go majorly wrong. Great cars.
