Cortina Mk3 V6 4X4 Estate spec

Anyone know about this type of car?

Have read about Ferguson Stags and police-spec Mk4 Zodiacs and early Mk1 rally 4X4 Capris. But not anything as regards a 4X4 V6 Cortina Mk3. Would appreciate any further info if anyone has any - 40 years on . . . . .

It was never made AFAIK, just a design study for Ford Australia or SA? as a police/ambulance, there are a few drawings about but never seen a real pic.

I know that it was flirt wish Swedish Royal Police for conversion of as much as 700 Mustangs in to 4X4, and also some Galaxies were used by USMLM in the East Berlin for spy missions with FF conversions.

I think I'm right in stating that Ford-UK (a) never sold any type of Mk 3 Cortina with a V6 engine, and (b) certainly not with four-wheel-drive.

And, before you sound off with another conspiracy theory - Motorsport never even built a prototype for their own use ....

There was a Mk3 Cortina fronted P100 built in South Africa that had a V6 2.5litre Essex engine as standard.

Correct, SA used the 2.5 and 3.0 Essex in the cortina but not the UK
After the Mk2 appart from a celebrity Gt cortina series backed by Ford there was only 1 cortina built for motorsport by the factory althoug AVO might have had a fiddle? the 1 boreham built (post Mk2)cortina was a Mk5 2.Dr with the 3.0 Essex.
The 4X4 pickups (bakkie) in SA were a non factory conversion.

Yes, well-spotted Hooli. It was a purely-private-enterprise project, in which Jeff Uren and his Race Proved company were prominent, but although Ford graciously allowed its various warranties to continue, they were never involved in engineering or in manufacture.

Yep, same with Superspeed and LuMo conversion in the UK and Perana in SA, in fact Basil Green beat ford to the 2.0 Mk1 escort, beleive it or not he even took the BDA engine from RS1600s out, sold them off and stuck the 2.0 pinto in there

That's pretty much as I thought too, only recently found this one, thx for all replies. Still, it's an interesting idea tho.

A bit like the turbo Mk1 Granadas, V8 Mk1 UK-spec Granadas.

Or Lotus 1558 engined / BDA 1600 Mk2 Cortina 1600Es.

All interesting to a Ford geek like myself.

There is a mk1 auto Capri that has 4x4. It was a met brown one.

It was built as a special for Mr Ford on a UK visit.

It used to be in the Ford Heritage Centre, many moons ago.

And for another visit from one of the Ford descendants Ford UK built a Mk2 RS2000 Auto!!!!

I'm sure I read about British Army Germany using some converted 4wd cars in East Germany
