Hi
Does anyone know why my battery would be dead flat after only starting the car 4 days ago without a hitch. Ive checked all the switches in case I left the lights on but they were all switched off.
Also is there anyway of jump starting the car as the battery is unreachable from the engine bay to jump it with leads
Thanks
Peter

I Think it can be done, but its a bit of a stretch. It might be easier to take out the panel in front of the wheel and reach through with the leads.

We reach down to put jumper cables and battery chargers onto the battery all the time, usually without any problems. The easiest way is to attach the positive terminal to the battery, and the negative terminal to a good, accessible ground point, like the engine (one of the four bolts holding the right motor mount to the engine will work well).

For a few cars that are totally packed with stuff that prevents us from getting to the battery, we clamp the jumper cables onto a wand (approx 20 inch piece of aluminum bar stock that has been fully insulated except for about 1/4 inch at one end, and about 2 inches on the other. You could also use a piece of copper - just be sure it's a good conductor, and can handle the current needed to start the car). Clamp the positive side of the jumper cable to the long uninsulated part of the wand, and hold the other end against the positive battery terminal while you try to start the car.

Cheers Jim
Ill have another look at reaching it from above if not ive been looking at ctek chargers that charge through the cigarette lighter. I can leave it plugged in to keep it maintained as well

Hi Peter , sounds like battery is dead !! Can you get a supply onto the starter motor ? Safer than trying to get on battery !!

All sorted I bought a cigarette lighter to lighter jump cable it started after 10mins of power transfer. Also bought a solar powered battery maintainer as I have no power in the garage so hopefully that will work and keep the battery topped up

If the lights were all off, could it be one of the door pins stuck draining the battery?

Still think you could have a issue as it should stay charged for longer than 4 days !! How old is battery ?

Not sure how old the battery is as ive only had the car since April. Its started without any problems until yesterday. Ive checked the door switches and they seem to be working ok. I guess I will have to run it into a local garage and see if they can check the alternator if thats ok then it will have to be a new battery and see if its holding a charge does anyone know the battery details?

I will have to get the wheel off and remove the inner wheel panel to expose the battery hopefully its still in one piece and not melted to the chassis

Hi Tux
I checked out the battery and its fine it is wrapped nicely and looks in good condition so Hopefully it will be ok
while I had the wheel off I checked out the engine management and noticed its running on MBE I take it its had an upgrade? Aslo if I have one rear wheel off the ground and the handbrake off if the wheel turns does this mean its got a lsd

As you have the five speed you can jump start from the starter motor so much easier than the six speed

Also make sure you have the stereo fully off and the face off - left mine in and on (thought it was off) and it flattened the battery in very short order. Also the 12v accessory socket was permanently live on mine, so leave nothing plugged into it that can drain power.
