Cayenne start stop help required
Discussion
I picked the cr up today, however I have noticed that the start stop is not working.
If I stop I get a yellow warning on the dash. Meaning all conditions not met for stopping the engine. I can't work out if this down to me or the car. I have tried the suspension in different levels, sport is off, fog light off. Yet I still get the warning. Is there something else that might cause it not to work?

The battery has to have a high enough power level and the engine needs to be fully up to temperature. I don't know if there's a menu for power level on a Cayenne (such as Audi have on their MMI systems) but if there is, check what it shows and the engine temperature(s) should be on gauge(s) on the dash.
A lot have things have to apply for it to stop, interior temp, engine temp, what consumables are running etc, its fine, the yellow warning is to tell you the system is working, but the engine will not be stopping, it'll be green when it does.
Yes, that's correct, tax discs now posted from Swansea,

Should it start working, you'll wish it never did. The most annoying and tedious feature of these cars. As a matter of course now, as soon as I start the car and put the coffee in the cup holder, I reach down and switch off the auto stop.
If you don't push the button, and stop at the lights or similar, you'll see an yellow 'A' in a circle struck out, meaning the thing isn't up to temp. If I see this, it serves to me as a reminder to disable the feature.
Oddly, on the demo I had prior to picking up my Diesel S, the auto stop disable didn't work and the car was blighted by it.

On my 991S when the AC is on stop/start doesn't work which is normalIf I stop I get a yellow warning on the dash. Meaning all conditions not met for stopping the engine. The car was hot, it had come 6 junctions down the motorway. I did check oil temps in the PCM/ dash. One more thing I did not get a tax disc. Apparently they now post it out to you.
I think it is a similar system to the Audi, in which case the battery used for engine restart on stop start is separate from your main battery. It is a lithium ion battery charged through braking force - so if your run was down a motorway, it is unlikely you have generated much charge. After a few days of town driving you will find the battery will get to fully charged and the stop/start will kick in.
Chaps resurrecting this thread to find out owners experience of stop/start as I've noticed a similar 'issue'.
When all qualifications are met stop/start works fine around town etc including some traffic stops on motorway but after a continuous long motorway run (~30+ miles) when I exit the motorway into town I get the yellow light at stops to says its disengaged.
The suggestion of a separate lithium battery charging on brakeforce redistribution (like Audi) would make sense but there is no reference to this in the handbook. The vehicle voltage display info normally shows mine at around half way on the gauge and usually above 13.2v.
Anyone else got intermittant stop/start in these conditons?

No second battery; the system has a DC/DC converter with capacitive storage which is employed as the restart power source after initial starting (the lights flicker slightly on first start but noticeably less on subsequent restarts using start/stop).
Diesels in particular have more stop-bans in the start/stop system. Specifically, stops will be prohibited if:
- Dpf regeneration is in progress
- Battery condition below limit
- Brake vacuum insufficient
- Steering input exceeds limit (system senses large steering angles as at low speeds as parking preparation - no need to switch off if driver is likely to select reverse or continue manoeuvre)
- Upward or downward slopes over a limit
- AC load exceeds limit (hot or cold limits)
- Electrical load exceeds limit (seat heating/heated screens)
- Seatbelt not fastened
- Door(s) open
- SPORT mode ON
The intelligent charge system will run the charging load at a minimum to reduce fuel consumption (watch the volt meter on the OBC); and instigate recuperation when the brake pedal is pressed - by increasing the Alternator load (again visible via the volt meter).
If the system faults, a yellow warning 'Start/Stop deactivated' will be displayed in the TFT screen.
The Starter is specifically designed for Start/Stop use - much higher durability compared to non SS type
The new AGM style batteries are again specifically designed for SS use.
On EU5 cars the SS system can be coded to 'last mode' - where the vehicle remembers the last mode selected and stays until next switched; ie: if you switch it off it stays off until you next switch it on, regardless of ignition cycle / vehicle locking

Pope - Very useful thanks. So a long trip down the motorway with minimal braking is likely to result in stop/start not being employed until energy has beeen recuped to a sufficient level?Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
