Edinburgh brunch advise?

My more to Edinburgh is confirmed so we will be up in a few weeks flat hunting (thanks for all the advice on where to live) and nothing would hit home for my wife more than being able to surprise her with a great weekend brunch (think pancakes/French toast/eggs benedict type of thing). Any advice on where I should take her?

+1 for Urban Angel Hanover Street - we used it as a calm and informal escape from the stramash of The Fringe last week. I've also had good brunch at Tiger Lily on George Street.

Go to The Haven down in Newhaven near Ocean Terminal. It's perfect for what you've described. My mate's sister in law runs it and it's superb.

The pancakes are particularly brilliant, along with cakes, breakfasts and whatever you could want for a brunch.

Being "coffee culture kiwis" at heart, a good coffee and breakfast well help the wife settle in no end! (Actually we are really looking forward to the improved standards of food in general compared to our small English village).

I think you'll be impressed at at the quality and variety of food & coffee houses in Edinburgh - I was brought up in Edinburgh then moved away for 25 years. Since coming back six years ago I've been really pleased to see the improvement in the quality of scottish catering (mind you, it did have a long way to go!). Edinburgh and our part of rural Perthshire seem particularly good. Can't comment on Aberdeen as I haven't lived there since I was a student, but I hear good things.
