Hi all,

Just thought I'd start a quick thread asking is anybody knows where I can get a decent, sturdy, old fashioned glass fronted cabinet to put my amp, cassette deck, CD player, turntable etc. into?

I've had a look online and could only find one place in the US that supplies what I want. This sort of thing:

http://www.decibeldesigns.com/bookcases.html#sc227...

Everything I've found in the UK online(and at my local 'proper' hi-fi place) are low slung shelf type units that offer no protection from curious toddlers who want to do nothing more than flick buttons poke things.

If anybody has any suggestions or pearls of wisdom I would rally appreciate it.

A decent carpenter could knock one of those up in next to no time.

I think this may be the case. I'll see who I can find locally to help out, I wouldn't mind having a go myself actually!

I have one of these for sale Quadraspire QKAV - see here http://www.quadraspire.co.uk/legacy-products/legac...

Mine's in oak, they were very expensive when new (£900) but I'm only looking for a fraction of that. The doors when opened can be pushed back down slots in the sides, so it's quite neat, though not small!!

I wouldn't say your original link is old fashioned. I have something like this. Mine houses crockery now as the amp, CD deck and speakers have emigrated to New Zealand.

Sorry for the late reply!

This is exactly what Holburn Hi-Fi were trying to sell me but the price was a little eye watering!

Where are you based? How much are you looking for the cabinet?

I've been hunting Ebay and found a few of those types of cabinets though everything is always miles away. I've been keeping my eye on our local Gumtree too, I'm hoping I can find something a little bit more 'Aberdeencentric'!

After trying to get something more 'domestic' than the two full height racks which stood in the corner of my living room , and disposing of much of the equipment , and after looking far and wide to find something to house what I was keeping , I needed up ordering an oak sideboard from Marks and Spencer . These are hand built to order then home delivered fully assembled . It was a couple of years ago , but I think it was around £800 .

You can see them on display in the stores .
