Nuvi 40 Routing Choices
Discussion
Picked up a Garmin nuvi 40 when I noticed one cheap, mainly for long journeys where using Sygic on my phone isn't ideal and when I venture into France. Gave it a test on a route I drive regularly to test the unit.
The route it gave me was very strange, it tried to send me the long way round, just to join the motorway for 2 junctions, I presumed it was because it doesn't know any other conditions other than speed limits and that route in it's brain is a few seconds quicker, so sends me that way. But after leaving to route it told me to go, after re-calculation the ETA fell by 30 seconds and still tried to send me a different route to the quickest. After the 2nd re-calculation as I deviated from it's route again, the ETA fell by about 10 seconds.
How come it routes me like this? I could understand the routing choice if the first route was the quickest (even by a few seconds), but it's not, and it knows that, by the adjusted ETA. The routing method is set to fastest (not shortest).
