i am going to see an 2003 f150 on friday. it will be my first personal yank motor apart from a few limo's i part owned a good few years ago. the truck was imported in 2006 with 2 uk owners.
is there any way to verify the mileage?
is it worth doing an hpi check on an import?
who are good insurance companies to use?
any other things i need to look for?

Hi if you have owned Lincoln limousine in the past I would not worry about the mileage they use the same 5.4 engine from the Lincoln navigater and the same transmission I had few f150 they are really nice .

HPI will give you its UK history.

Carfax will give you its US history if you think it's hiding something.

As Roo says run a Carfax on it after you've looked it over if you decide to buy it, www.carfax.eu I've looked at 2 trucks this year that have had over 200k shaved off the milage when I've run the VIN, if a late model USA car or truck wasnt supplied new here you have to run a Carfax report, it will also tell you any accident history, service history, if factory recalls have been done etc

Hi
I`m with classic line with an 03 lightning £221 ?? might be cos I`m old lol.

Could try frank pickles, Stevenage insurance services, Headley.

Goggle "American car insurance" if you haven`t already done so .

Cheers mate , great trucks biggrin

Classic line said the truck was too new for them to insure. Flux want £420, 4k miles, 33, 11 years no claims, no points or claims in a safe area.

For future reference, an AutoCheck report is generally more comprehensive than a Carfax report.

Carfax basically resells NMVTIS info, AutoCheck is very good at catching auction announcements (Frame damage, TMU, etc). I've seen cars with multiple Carfax accident indicators yet they have never been in anything past a small scuff in a parking lot, and just as many cars with clean Carfax reports and previous structural damage.

In 2000 my mother was driving my Volvo S80 and was in a serious accident. Since it was just a few months old the $28,000 in damage didn't total the car and it was fixed. It was never the same. It's still on the road, or was a couple years ago. No mention of an airbag deployment accident in 2000 tho, but it was on the AutoCheck.
