steering column

You need to straighten the wheel by adjusting the tracking properly, so that the adjustment is equal on both sides.
If you try and fix a bodged tracking by straightening the steering wheel on the column, you will mess up the position of the indcator cancel disk and have unequal amounts of lock on each side. It needs the tracking doing properly by someone who knows what they are doing.

It's not on splines either. It's a hexagonal shaft.
