Just some inspiration from parents starting to clear out the kitchen before a house move.

We found some dried beans with a best before date of 1999 and some brandy sauce a date of 2001. Both fine when tried biggrin Sadly no pictures as I was not alowed due to embarrassment of having something so old!

Can anyone beat this?

Try the Connery joke thread. Some of the stuff in there is pre-war.

When we were clearing out my parents kitchen before a refit in 2009 we discovered a can of St Michael branded chicken in white wine, a Bejam branded can of pie filling and a can of ground coffee that was covered in “ERII Silver Jubilee” graphics. Oh and a forgotten bottle of lemon juice that had a use by date of 1996.

In the cellar of my Aunt's house in norway there are still jam jars full of home made cherry jam dated from 1956 up. My uncle still has stuff liberated from the Nazis down there too. We have a bottle of Maderia which my grandparents brought home from there in the 50s too.

Shouldn't this be in food & drink? wink

I have this:

I have moved it from the back of about 6 food cupboards to the back of another one.

No idea on age but there is no best before date and the jumper puts it at early 70s I think.

when my parents redid their kitchen about 10 years ago we found some food colouring and some spices with prices on that were pre decimal.
If I remember rightly there was some vanilla essence price marked 4d

My parents always used to have prawn cocktail starter at Christmas and used to wheel out the same pot of cayenne pepper each year to sprinkle on top. Until one Christmas when I was about 12, I noticed that the pepper had a use by date of sometime in 1977, three years before I was born, so a good 15 years out of date.

We found a packet of crisps in my parents house that had moved house with them twice.

My mum still has various jars of spices that must be well over 25 years old. Obviously never used but are sat on the rough looking spice jar rack I made in woodwork in school over 20 years ago.

One of the exes was moving out of her parents house and when she had a quick rummage through the cupboard for her baking stuff found a box of spices sealed from when her parents moved in, so a selection of 20yo spices came with her and they were all fine. The Chilli powder was milder back then.
