Hit my weight loss target. Now what?
Discussion
Caveat - this can certainly be classified under first world issues!
There are many people on this part of PH that have gone through various transformations. You just have to flick through the first few pages of this section and you'll see various weigh loss threads.
Well, I have come through my own transformation and have now hit my target goal.
However, I feel kind of empty and a bit confused. I'm obviously happy and healthier than I have been since I was at University. But where do I go from here and more worryingly how do I avoid falling back into the old habits of the past and morph back into the old blob?
Over the past 5 months I've been very strict and very determined. Daily weigh ins are the norm and any cheats/slips were followed by pangs of guilt. I know that this is not psychologically good for me and I need to relax and chill out. But I'm determined not to waste all of this effort.
So over to the PH population that have been there and done that, what did you do after you hit your target and how do you fend off slipping back to bad habits.

Well done.
You've got a few choices now.
-Have a fitness goal eg to run a marathon, do 3 peaks
-Become competent in a sport and even compete eg strong man, tennis, rock climbing, athletics competitions
-Hone your physique eg aim for a cover model physique or to enter a bodybuilding competition
It's entirely up to you.

Achieving your goals can be almost as depressing as failing.
It's a slippery slope, and eventually you'll end up setting unrealistic goals just to avoid the anticlimax of fulfilling them and wondering what the f
k to do now
Basically you're f
ked. Welcome to the club

You need to learn something that impresses women. Develop some gymnastic skills.

"But you can only do that in a gym or park!"
"How about on scaffolding, railings or a lamppost in the street?"

Whereas it's perfectly acceptable for men my age to wear fluorescent spandex costumes and roam the countryside on bicycles

I may be older than you but the most common response i get when doing that sort of stuff is "you look stupid" or "why dont you grow up"

Nothing you do will make your kids think you look cool, though. Whereas it's perfectly acceptable for men my age to wear fluorescent spandex costumes and roam the countryside on bicycles

TBH I've not heard that kind of thing from anyone whatsoever.
But I see what your critics are saying. I mean, this guy should grow up and get a life:

(I think he's 40.)
Snowboarding?! the devil's sport! Never!!!
Skiing will be interesting this season with greater fitness, but it is also a gravity sport which is where being a fatty helps you go faster.
I'm due to move in a few weeks and will have more space so will start looking into getting some free weights and start doing some deadlifts/squats/etc.. That should present a new challenge and also help me tone up a bit.
Running has always been a hatred of mine (second to snowboarding) and can't see myself getting into that.
Although a tough mudder or rat-race type event appeals as it has the variation that my short attention span can cope with.

Well done. Set yourself a goal, a specific achievement by a specific date. And off you go.
And stay away from the scales. Just look in the mirror.
And be honest about that pair of trousers, jeans or shirt that just fits right, if it starts to get tight then ease up abit to avoid larding up.And stay away from the scales. Just look in the mirror.

Yeah, free weights is the way forward particularly if you do other sports. Stuff like hang cleans and Bulgarian squats can be useful.

They're clearly having fun but I can't see why you'd want to do that. I know the old "if we all liked the same thing" phrase but that's taking things a bit far.skibum said:
Think that Gymnastics may be a stretch too far!
But it seems that setting a new goal is a good start as well as not fretting about the small stuff (will need to lock away the scales!).
Choices, choices, choices...

I was 129kg.. Target of 100kg, never thought I'd get there. Now at 91kg, went straight past it and carried on. Have now set myself a goal of cycling my first Sportive, 71 miles. After that, I'll set myself another goal to train towards.
