"itschampionman"
Discussion
Hi all,
I've got a poster called "itschampionman" on the Safe Speed forums who I'd rather like to identify.
Does anyone here know who itschampionman is?
Here's an example:

Tracing most people on the internet is very easy. Some people however try to hide themselves with various proxy/other systems. Those are the ones I ban/block. IMHO people who hide have something to hide.
I set up a BBS once for a company that had registration and e-mail verification. One of the rules was the e-mail address must always be valid and a maximum of one e-mail from the forum must be accepted a month. You didn't have to do anything with the mail.
Would you believe that 20% of the addresses were invalid within the first month? Instant bans. It turned into a very nice forum by all accounts.

Not my forum and none of my business, but I don't see any reason why you would care whether this person has a vested interest, as long as they comply with your codes of conduct. At the end of the day we all do have vested interests, this is not just an academic discussion it potentially affects each of our freedom to drive, hold a job down, keep a roof over our heads.
My only potential worry about vested interests would be the possibility that somebody joins the forum not to enter the discussion but to disrupt it. But that I think is more an issue about conduct than motivation.

An alternative viewpoint, honestly and fairly expressed, is usually helpful to some degree, but I still like to know something about the background of whoever contributes it.
I very much appreciate a bit of humour, but I have only limited capacity for the habitual wind-up merchants and miscellaneous agitators.
Generally speaking I prefer people to play with a straight bat when we're discussing matters that we feel are important to us, and then we know where we are.
In this case Paul, I can understand you wanting to know something about him, as I am generally suspicious of people who are not prepared to identify themselves and permit reasonable verification.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

I think we have a moral right to know if someone's words are affected by their vested interest. That's about the total size of it really.
Surely it's just common decency to declare a vested interest if you have one?
Oh for heaven's sake. Was going to leave this well alone ... but on other hand .. it is a thread which should really be closed as chap (if he does have vested interest on professional level - say) could cause negative publicity for our arguments against yet again
Man posts point of view which I disagree with (no secret - you seen my replies to "By 'Eck Chumps!" on there?
)- but he is entitled to hold it.
For record - astounding as it may seem - I met people whilst on holiday last summer - Brits catching the train from the "Park N Ride" at Zermatt. In normal conversation about how marvellous the Swiss system is an "how much the UK could learn" on the 20 minute ride up...topic of speed cams came up and the couple from Dorset (in early 50s at least) were vehemently pro-scam and had swallowed the "speed kills" garbage completely. Even my wife's sweetest smile and counter argument did not budge them. Pity we only had 20 minutes - though - reckon another 10 and Wildy would have had the husband on our side
We then met middle aged woman from Wales on a lake ferry- boat - Luzern. She was also pro-scam as well - (we kill their children - you know
) Spinster - and flirting was a definite
Would not have worked... well not with me anyway .... if you - er - get the - er
None of these people had a "vested" interest - admittedly first impression over 20 minute train ride in once case and 30 minute boat ride in the other.
Decided to post this - possibly against better judgement here - but I will add few more comments for the hell of it:
I do not think it appropriate to discuss a contributor to any forum in this way. It is talking about someone behind their backs at the end of the day. Guy will be just a little cross if and when he finds out!
And if he does have a vested interest - such as perhaps being a Brake member - then do you not think we are playing right into their hands here.
Cannot call the lentilist veggie burger Stasis and accuse of blocking free speech and nosey -parkering into their private affairs when we start practically doing the same thing.
As for non disclosures on profiles - there is such a thing as privacy protection. Some people like to keep things as discreet as possible - and even then - there are ways of tracking soemone if one really wants to be that bothered...
Now can we lock up this thread before it gets out of hand?

Everyone who posts an opinion has a vested interest to see that opinion taken up and agreed with. Whether he has a vested interest or not makes no odds. Do you suspect that he might work for www.truvelo.co.za/traffic/index.html ?

I have too been reading this person posts on your forum and they are indeed different from yours, mine and a number of people who frequent them. However you do say, quite correctly that you encourage reasoned debate and hisher debate does appear reasoned, despite the fact I do not agree with them on a number of points.
Whilst I can understand your wish to know if this person is professionally involved in speed enforcement, it does make very little difference to the argument, IMO, and I think it works across the board.
IMO I think you may have made a small mistake in posting this, only in terms of the potential bad press, at the end of the day their argument will be strong, or it may not, I think you have the knowledge, experience and strength of conviction to out way their opinion, regardless of their interest.
Cheers
