I have had my 4.0 Chim since 1998. I love it. It is Triggers Broom. Almost nothing has not been replaced. Resprayed twice, new outriggers, chassis refurb, new interior, new roof etc etc.

Only one problem. It is not very fast. Where do I start?

Not very fast in comparison to how it was or just not very fast? What's the mileage and are you still running the original cam?

TBH it depends on the current state of the running gear as to what you do.. You may get a few "TURBO" or "SUPERCHARGER" suggestions but if the engine is old & tired you may be just as well rebuilding/replacing that.

The std cams are a bit soft (i.e. they wear out) and when that happens it'll lose a LOT of its performance.

Spend £60 on a rolling road session and see what your base figures are, if nothing else, after you've spent £xxxxs it'll be nice to do a compare & contrast run to prove it was worthwhile...

If it in good nick cosmetically sell it now and buy a good 450 or 500 this winter.

No question, it will cost you more to significantly improve your present one by changing stuff and staying normally aspirated.
It has taken you 15 years to get to the point I got to in 9 months. It has then cost me about £7-9,000 to add 100 bhp. Looking back, I should have spent half that buying a better car.

If you want to keep it, find Fatboychim on here and email him for a chat. Lovely guy, has supercharged his 400 and I struggle to keep up with him on the track in my 500. He knows how to make supercharging work. he is also an Essex resident, IIRC. I am sure he will happily show you exactly how fast st does go off a shovel.

If it is as good as you say, then I'd keep it. Worth checking the cam and the perhaps one of Eann Whalley's turbo/ ECU upgrades.

I would say you start by deciding how fast you want it to be wink I'm wondering if you've thought it's not very fast for a long time, or if you've recently had an encounter that has left you feeling a bit left behind frown are you talking about straight line speed only? What QB said is very valid, personally I wouldn't spent lots of dosh on a 400 if you're keeping it NA, SC on the other hand.... The big question is, how fast do you want it to be smile

If its a true trigs broom and you've spent a lot on the rest of the car then I imagine you're not taking the budget approach.. If this is the case then I would start by replacing the Ecu, and then drive it a bit to make sure it's all dialled in. Once you've done that, pull the engine out and have it checked over; new rings, blower cam, clutch, oil pump gears and maybe some light head work and arp studs all around and a balance - nothing too crazy. Put it back in and run it in and check it all works, then bolt on an sc power kit, act induction mods, intercooler, big injectors, and an act sports exhaust. Get it all tuned up and you'll have a bullet proof setup that is super car fast, without totally breaking the bank or trying anything that is less than very well tested.

If you haven't already done so, put on a set of nitrons and some 4 pot brakes and you'll have a car that really hits the sweet spot :-)

Thanks all. My Chim is the only tangible link to being single and childless, so it's staying! Will report back!
