EEK..Is my Roof going up the Chute.
Discussion
Technical please,
On several occasions now my roof has failed to close mid operation on my new V8VS Roadster..................
It throws up messages like Roof Function Failure or I think it says movement incomplete,if my eyes serve me right,ba*tard tiny writing.
I've noticed on two occasions when this has happened my driver side window has been slightly down.
Today on return to home with the roof down it stopped its self mid motion, try as I might it was stuck like a half open tin of Sardines.
In the end with the car switched off and as if by magic it completely closed its self then seem to clear its memory and on restart functioned perfectly.
Any clues cus its lost me.
Thanks.

The roofs can be like stroppy women, throwing a wobbler for no apparent reason
I've fou d with my two NEVER touch the doors or windows whilst the roof is in operation it hates that
If you do it on the move and get gust of wind it will do what you described and only resolves by turning the car off and back on
Sounds like it could be slightly out of alignment
If you switch it off and leave it 5 minutes the hydraulics relieve pressure and it all relaxes back down (a problem if the cover is above the roof)

No advice Ed, I'm afraid but just to say I think this is a relatively common failure on certain cars. I had a brand new V8VR as a courtesy car and exactly the same problem. Thankfully the weather was epic so didnt need to put it up in a rush. Did leave me hanging like your tin of sardines though, but on every occasion having switched off the car, a few seconds later the system releases a hydraulic/electronic lock and the roof comes down. Warranty? I know Martyn (JMOC12) has had issues with his brand new SP10. Sorry to be of little use.
Lectrics don't like warm weather Ed, my fuel flap wouldn't open this morning at Kate's bridge petrol station, I had someone pressing the button while I was trying to waggle the flap, much to the amusement of everyone else.., just about got to work without running out of fuel and as soon as I parked it it worked fine @&#
Right I get it,its a fault that ain't a fault..........right,could only get away with that in an Aston.
Just been to town to pick up one of my daughters so thought I'd re test the job,all went fine....................
Coming home I've developed the squeak and rattle from hell on the drivers side rear end, strangely where a new ASM
Gearbox pump was fitted only last Friday............ho hum head doer time for bed, were's my Bentley Brochure.
HWM if your reading this I'll be ringing in the morning..............yet again

Hey Lee I forgot to tell you,you get these Harry Hill moments with an Aston,Sh*t ,did you want to run away and hide............bet it was a right caper first thing in a morning.
Ed my car is at the dealers now for a roof problem.....it would close fine until there was about a 6" gap to the top of the screen. It wouldn't go any further, just made the hydraulics whining noise. If I just pulled down lightly it would drop and the locking pawls would engage and lock. This was found at the PDI. I'm awaiting resolution!!
Be interested in the progress of this and I'll keep you updated on mine.

I overheard someone atvan AMOC event saying the roof is supplied by Mercedes. Had the same issues with my V12R and must admit its squeaky bum time when you see rain ahead with the roof down and wonder whether the roof will work or not. IMO there are too many instances of roof failures on recent new cars for it not to be concern. On my MY10 V8R I had no roof issues whatsoever during ownership. I wonder what has changed?

I wonder if they've bought up all the remaining Crossfire roof mechanisms...........sorry Steven if your out there. After talking to folk and reading on here about failures I asked at the dealers but they told me they had only had one
instance and that was with a V12 such as yours.
I think new cars in general are poor currently and someone at the factory needs to get hold of it before it damages the market.

No not the same dealer Graham I'm with HWM,yes it seems there are all to many issues currently.
My car came off the line 27th March 2013 BTW.
I''ve been having exactly the same issue with the roof failing to raise on my V12VR. HWM have looked at it twice but it never fails when they have the car. They replaced the control module but the first time I tried to raise the roof after the car returned I had the same error! Since then we have done 11 days/2500 miles without it reoccurring, raising the roof about twice a day so fingers crossed. My car came off the line 27th March 2013 BTW.

Bit nervous now about putting it back up and tend to hold the button after making sure the windows are up and my arms and any thing else that might hinder it are out the way.
Have noticed that the windows aren't forming a tight seal with the roof now and I'm experiencing a lot of wind and motorway noise particularly on the drivers side.
I'm sure it will come right eventually so I just keep my fingers crossed at the moment, its going back in shortly to be sorted after we've been down the New Forest in it next week.
So if anyone sees a Vantage Roadster doing an impression of a Sardine Tin that'll be me................

Snap.......they've played around with mine and its performed its duty without fail so I'm just seeing how it goes now.
Is that a special personal service at your dealers then, not something that's been offered at mine.... Apparently this service is available at Dockyard Dora's though.......

Surprised its not going on up north too,you probably need to march into the showroom and demand satisfaction from your dealer.
BTW Steve you should be on the Burghley list only just down the A1.....
